| So with the current recalls and bad press, how bad of a beating am I going to take on my '06 DoubleCab Tacoma? It hasn't been recalled but it is branded Toyota. Want to trade for a Jeep but don't want negative equity. Any thoughts or experiences since all this crap has started? |

unfortunately, it is now worth exactly $6.38. I'll be generous, and offer an even $7.00. seriously, trading a 'yota for a uaw-built piece of garbage doesn't sound like the best plan...and this is coming from a guy who has never owned a "foreign" vehicle. based on how the gm/chrysler debacle has been handled and the attack on toyota though, my next truck will be a tundra (or maybe a titan) -matt |

You'd be better off selling it outright. What'll you take for it? This is almost ALWAYS the case. Selling it will get you the value, trading it in will get you blue-book trade-in value (which is low enough for them to sell for the real value and make money). Never traded in a car in my life and don't plan to start now. We always sell the old one and use the money on a new one. I think we all know the general public only knows what the media tells them, so it may have an impact on the resale value. Surely anyone with two brain cells could tell that since it isn't involved in the recall the value should be the same as it would have been if there had never been a recall. Fords have TONS of recalls on new cars before the model year is even over, and people still buy them. I used to work for a Lincoln/Mercury dealership, and I was always amazed at the volumes of recalls, TSBs, and owner notifcations that went out for new cars. Never hurt their value.
