Sucks?  How does this suck?  The "peoples rifle" had no copyright (Communist Russia) no protection, no nothing.  That's what happens when everything belongs to the "state".

They got what they asked for under their system. When it fell so did the protection. Guess wished he had a better lawyer...

I feel no pain for them or him.

This doth not sucketh as we make them here also and we pay them nothing to do so.

Well said DKing.

I love he's quoted saying "It's not fair."

This is what he fought for and supported.

Intellectual Property in the Soviet System???

Now I wish I had a choice, I would have probably bought Izmash product, if it was equal to the Romanian that was available on the free market. Oops :-) I'll shut up

The only thing unfair is that AK-47s only cost $50 in some countries as the article stated.   Why do we have to pay $400+ for a stamped out gun, when Nigeria can buy them for under $100?  $50 AKs would make my day.

I guarantee that if we could import them for $50-100 a piece in the US, even the semi-auto ones, they wouldn't be in bankruptcy for long.   Hell the Georiga HTF would be in for a few thousand of them by ourselves!

I am personally a fan of the "there's no profit margin in small arms" line..  I think it shoul be there's no profit margin in communism..  I'd like to think Gaston Glock didn't get to be a billionaire from just shovels and field
knives.

Yes when the State can nationalize the rights to the weapon, and send tooling to foreign contries as military "aid" they set themselves up to compete against themselves.

The beauty of capitalism is that once izmash folds the competitors who can ship military configured AK clones into the US may likely take up the prospect of doing so if demand is still high enough.  And with more competitors comes better prices for the market.

Lol!  I just had a mental image of Obama in a soup line in the future, saying it isn't fair that he had to give up most of his and his wife's crazy income level for taxes to be distributed to the poor.

He worked for the Soviet Military when he designed the weapon, so I'd expect no less.  Just like someone who designs something while as an employee of a company...  the company owns the design (most of the time).  It does suck that he never made a dime off of the design though.

I remember reading somwhere in Africa you can trade a goat or a couple chickens for a full auto AK.

I mentioned this in another posting here, but Ive actually got a line on a 100,000 non-rusian AK47s.  Cheap.

Im not kidding.  Im just a local, but my extracurricualar activities have taken me into some very unusual places / circles.   Mark here even made the same comment to me once.

Just havent figured out the whole busieness/import thing yet.

But yeah, hate it for him.

Any body remember when the Russians were copying Texas Instruments electronic circuit boards in the 70's and included the logo as well?

That's a lie! The design bears little resemblance to the StG45!
