So after many hours of off duty work for making 80 hour weeks, and selling some things I no longer need from my jeep I have finally saved enough money to send my Winchster Model 70 off to a guy in Fl who is going to replace the bottom metal for me so that it will accept Accuracy International Mags!!!!!!

I have already sent the scope off and recieved it back. But I will go ahead and say it loud and proud, LEUPOLD was a PAIN in the a$$ to work with! I mean they were "updating" their computers and what not for weeks, pushing back all orders. After being double charged for no reason and could not recieve an answer from them. I had to go dispute the charge with my bank so that I didn't pay 2x's. I was in the a$$ of three different people there and could never get a straight answer. But I finally got my scope back. Did a slam up job, but I guess they are not really worried about me being that I have had my scope back for a couple weeks now and the "mang" never call me back to make sure I recieved it. So its cool, maybe inthe furture I will just go with someone else.

But pics will be soon to follow after the rifle is finsihed!!!!!!!!

And with no more wait here is the final product, well adleast for now! I am thinking over sized knob next. enjoy and please give feed back!!!

I have the Bottom metal you speak of. In mine the mag release spring is too weak and the mag will fall out way to easy. Plan on putting in a stiffer spring.

Its a VXIII 6.5x20x50 orginally came with a fine retical and tall covered target turrets. Which one day at the range it took a tumble! Ask 00leland00 about that one. I had them replace the retical to a mil dot and from the target turrets to the M1 exposed turrets.

Ok so I get off of work around 0745. Goto court from 0830 till 0945. I get at the XXXXX store to ship my rifle, and me being the honest person I am, I walk to the counter to make sure that XXXX is still allowed to ship rifle and any other "firearms/ weapons" SO I ask her this question to which she replies, I do not know let me make a call. So she does, and come back with ' I can not ship it from here, you would have to goto the distribution center. And I do not know where that is, but we could map quest it."
So at this point I have the gaze of a German Shepard with a stop watch look going on. I ask "But I have shipped pistols, ammo, and rifles through your company, and also from this location."
Her:" O well were not allowed to do this from here we could loose our license."
Me:" Ok thats fine well can we adleast pack it up in one of your boxes please."
So after packing it i then turn to pay for the items, she says "$15.11" FOR A BOX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my god no wonder I went to liquior stores when I moved!
So lesson of the day make sure that even when you ship something through a company make sure that allllllllllllll locations will accpet the items! And also check prices of boxes!!!!!

Once i finshed putting the scope back on her, i took a step back and looked at it. First thought that came to mind way "Damn that was so worth the extra duty hours put in!"
But I loaded both mags with some dummy rounds to test the functions of it and man Jeff did a great job with the inlaying on the action(Tried to show in last pic but my digi sucks).  Rifle cycled all 20 rounds like clock work! But i noticed then and from previous range visit that a larger bolt knob will make the action even that much nicer! The only thing I was worried about at first form talking to other people along with my observations on my rifle it the wobble int he mag when seated. It has a little play left to right, but for the most part it does not seem to affect the ablility to cycle.

Looks like a good set up for the knob. I have looked into brownells to see what they have. Main thing I am going to look into is finding someone local who can do the install for me on the low. Maybe the wifey will be nice and read the post to get some more xmas ideas!
I plan on making a trip this wens to the range to get her sighted in and put some rounds through her! SO any of the low country guys that want to come with feel free!

Good luck finding someone to do a Winchester bolt knob thread. They are harder than woodpecker lips and usually tear up the tool. Probably won't be cheap. It can be done, but just not as readily as a remmy or savage. It will make it alot easier to manipulate. Locally try Deer Creek in Marietta.

Hooper Ordnance will do bolt knobs for the Winny's, he just charges extra for them though - still reasonably priced though.

Quite frankly, I like the Winchester bolt knob design better than the Remington. It sits a little lower and is more accessable than the Remington's, so other than looks - I personally wouldn't do it.

As for the Tac Ops knob, Mike Resignio is good people and builds a good rifle. The primary advantage for his style of knob is to avoid threading cast bolt knobs with voids that can break - something that happens occasionally with Remingtons. The Winchester handles are better done and doesn't really need that design - but knock your socks off if you want to.

Nice rifle by the way - who did your work on the bottom metal? When you're ready to upgrade to a Nightforce, let me know and I can point you in the right direction
