Though I would post this here.  Saw some of the HTF folks at the range today.

OK, got everything together yesterday evening.  I enjoyed the hell outa figuring this out.  It helps to have all the right tools!  I could wait for my HTF lower so I built this out.  Once I get the lower and upper from Kyle, I'll be switchen' some parts around.

The parts:

Ready to build it out:

Uppers complete!:

Already had the lower assembled, so all I needed to do was mate the lower and upper:

From muzzle to stock:
KX3 (might end up using a Ben Triplett Levang Comp when he comes out with them)
AR15 Performance 16” 6.8 SPC (DMR) barrel and bolt
YHM Gas Block
VTAC forearm
Daniel Defense upper
RRA lower with a two stage match trigger
Pri Gas Buster Charging Handle
Ergo grip
Vltor Buffer Tube
Magpul ACS
Trijicon 3-9X40 Scope

Whatcha think for my first build?

This is a sweet shooting rifle.  No issues whatsoever.  Fired on the first round and rocked and rolled.  I really like how it fires and the pattern was very tight.

At the range

My BIL firing.

The two targets we used for this rifle @ 100 yards.  I had the Trijicon on my 308 before switching it to this weapon.  It was dead on line but about a foot low on the first round.  Dialed it in pretty quick.  Didn’t take any dedicated three round patterns but the patterns we were shooting were very tight.  I’ll get a three round in at some point, but today we were sighting in three weapons, so we didn’t have a huge amount of time.  Once this rifle was sighted it was rock solid.  I am VERY happy with this rifle.  Thank you Harrison and Donna at AR Performance for all the help.

How do you like "The Pig" I have one on my SBR and have had it for a while, and I still cant decide if I want to keep it on there. I'm looking for another viable alternative, but unitl then the Pig stays.

Yup, love the SLAP plate!    The Pig is very nice.  I want to spend some more time with it but appears well worth the money.  The sound is MUCH less noticable (not suppressor level, but you get the meaning).

Nice.  I'm planning to build a similar rifle with my GA lower, but hope to use an 18" or 20" barrel instead.

I happened to run into him at the range yesterday and got lucky enough to see the rifle up close.  I wish we could have stayed longer, because I wanted to see him shoot it but we had to get back to get in the deer stand on time.   It was a great looking gun, and I am sure it shoots as good as it looks.

That's a damn fine looking sling plate you got on that blaster.

Good seeing out there and getting to meet you!  Hope we bump into each other again at the range, you can take a few rounds through it...

Yeah it was good to meet a fellow ARF guy and I would love to put a couple downrange one day.  That was the first time we have been to that range but I am sure that we will be back sooner or later.  Hope to see you out there again.

just curious, but why did you go with the pig over a more traditional style muzzle device on that length barrel?

and, does it affect the balance of the rifle any?

Love the balance of the rifle.  That was a concern of mine with the pig, but it worked out rather well.  Weighed the rifle (with scope) at 8 pounds 7 ounces with a nice center of balance.  As to why, I don't hunt with ear pro, and have already lost enough hearing with 5 years on Aircraft Carriers, and my research said that the pig would decrease db, at least to the shooter.  Seems to work nicely.  I've only got 40 rounds downrange at the moment.  Time will tell.
