| What kind of ammo do you guys use for AR/.223 range/sighting in ammo? My brother and I tried Wolf but as soon as the rifles warmed up at all that failed badly. We tried the Wolf because I have gone through a ton of it in 7.62x39 with zero issues but MAN it seemed to be rough on the poor .223s. Is there such a thing as range ammo in .223? |

Federal XM193. I can always find it. All my guns are sighted in for it.
Second Choice is the ATI MKE 62 GR. It's an unpainted SS109 Projectile so no steel at Creekside. It's loaded hot to NATO specs. And it's not priced to bad. I'm just not a proponent of Wolf. We sell a ton of it but I can't put it through my guns. AK's are OK, but not in 223. It's a personal choice and I can't talk anyone out of it with any particular reason. I just don't shoot it. PMC was loaded kind of light for me, that and it can be spotty to get at times, unlike the XM193. |

Do you mean as in group size or you all were having problems w/ functioning of the weapon, or something else? Personally I don't have a problem shooting wolf in my ar's. Now I don't shoot it in my precision ar, but in the carbines I don't have a problem w/ it. I wish I started using it sooner. I used to think the steel cased ammo would screw up my ar etc... so I was buying GA Arms for years. That was way before I found this site and found out how many people actually shoot wolf w/out a problem. Bottom line is I could of shot alot more and saved some $ if I started sooner. It is dirty though. +1 for Prvi too. |

It is dirty though. +1 for Prvi too. My brother was having failure to extract in a SU-16. We were popping the cases out with a cleaning rod. I was having failure to feed in a strange way in an AR. It would fire, extract and eject fine but the bolt would stay back. If I pulled the charging handle the next round would feed fine and then fire, extract, and eject. I could see "drag" marks on each case which made me picture chunks of steel being scraped off inside the rifle which made me cringe. If the rifles cooled down for a while we could do a couple mags each (slowly) before it started happening again. I didn't look at the successfully fed and extracted cases for drag marks so I don't know if they looked the same. Thanks for the responses guys. I am just going to have to move to brass only for 223. I'll try out the different kinds you mentioned. I didn't think twice about using Wolf because of the AK. I had only used brass 223 before that day and had no problems. DKing, sure thing man! I have quite a few boxes. I may have some loose in mags too. I'll gather it together. |

Trying to blame it on the ammo now I see. Funny, my target was full of holes in the right places and all I had was an aimpoint @ the 100yd mark using woof woof. ![]() |

rofl. Yeah, that's it! My rifle didn't like the ammo! |

I went to a patrol rifle school not too long ago and shot about 1000 rounds of the Hornady lacquer case. We did rapid fire and even a few mag dumps and had no problems with it at all. Dont know what it cost, the dept paid for it, but it was reliable. Ammunitiontogo usually stocks the laqcuer case LEO training ammo at a fraction the cost of TAP-FDP-LEO stuff. It is supposed to be some high quality stuff. @OP: I recently sighted in my AR using Federal value packs and Prvi 62gr FMJ. The PRVI is good to go at Creekside since its lead core. I got mine from AimSurplus for about 38 cents a round. I wish the local shops could compete with the Internet outfits... I'd like to do business locally but the price differential is too great. Use some decent, but not expensive ammo, to sight in your rifle. Once you are confident in your zero then you can start blasting away with the cheap Bear and Wolf stuff. Caveat: The very third round my rifle has ever fired of Brown Bear was FTE, had to bang it out with a cleaning rod. YMMV |

You guys shoulld check the owners manual for your guns. RR and Bushy don't warranty guns fired with Wolf ammo. like the Federal xm193. Where did you hear/ read this? Is Wolf considered remanufactured ammunition? I know GA Arms is. Straight from the bushy manual. Says the same info under the warranty page at the end... CAUTION: USE ONLY CLEAN, DRY, HIGH QUALITY COMMERCIALLY MANUFACTURED
AMMUNITION IN GOOD CONDITION which is appropriate to the 5.56mm NATO / .223 Remington caliber of your firearm. Bushmaster does not recommend the use of remanufactured or hand loaded ammunition because it may damage your rifle. bushy manual I couldn't find a RRA manual online, but I have one and all it came w/ was a couple of inserts along w/ a military operators manual. eta: I read over this part in the bushy warranty, but it doesn't specifically say Wolf or steel cased. Just says 'low quality ammo'. Bushmaster Firearms, Inc. will not be responsible for the results of careless handling, unauthorized
adjustments, defective, low quality, reloaded, or improper ammunition, |

I'll check Manuals tomorrow but I know for a fact that Del-Ton Uppers come with a paper stating that the uppers are NOT warrantied for damage if Wolf is used. Just Sayin'. And you can find manuals that say to change your oil every 3k miles.... Just sayin' |
| I have had good results with both xm193 and the prvi m193. Never had a malfunction with either ammo out of two different rifles. I have some q3131 but haven't tried it yet. My nephew has a dpms and he told me that his manual says they wont warranty Wolf either. Doesn't mean it is bad ammo but it does give them an out. |
