Really want to start gearing to participate in three gun matches. Any sites, beside our favorite here, that deal stricky with three gun matches ,locally or national. For those who run these matches are there always a irons only section? What ranges are you practicing at that you get drawing (side arm) practice in. Our you using more belt mag pouches or vest or chest rigs?
Anyway you see where I am going with this. I m a newbie to the three gun. Never even been to a match. Which I will be doing ASAP. Thanks Yall |

Thanks Yall 1. Don't know of any sites that deal strictly with 3 Gun. 2. Generally there is an Irons section but ultimately it's up to the MD. 3. Private ranges are pretty much the only place that you can draw from a holster on. It's generally considered unsafe. 4. I've noticed it's about 50/50 at local matches but the style match <trooper vs. more IPSC Style] usually dictates the carry gear. Belt is considered more "Gamer" Chest Rig/PC is considered more "Tactical. Nothing wrong with either one. I mainly shoot local matches as I don't get much time off from work. Try the River Bend Match in October and the Creekside Action Rifle Match in November [rifle only]. They are the two best local matches around the N GA Area. |

Thanks Yall This is THE place for 3 gun , multi gun discussion, with the worlds, yes worlds (USA, Netherlands, Europe, etc) 3 gunners offering tips and advise. Link http://www.brianenos.com/forums/index.php?showforum=86 There is a great multi gun match being put on Oct 3-4 at South River Gun Club right outside of Atlanta. They have over 75 shooters right up for it already last time I check the squadding list. If you want more info, send me a message. |
| I suggest that you go to one of the matches mentioned, River Bend or Creekside and just bring what you have, people will help you out, let you borrow, etc. You will change your set up a billion times and then still want something new/different. I haven't been to the South River match but it is suppose to be a great match with a lot of top shooters and it is run more IPSC style (again haven't been so someone can correct me). Anyway it is a great sport and you will have fun, just get out to a match and ask a lot of questions. You can also come to any match and watch if you want. |

RIght now RBGC and Creekside use the rules of the Macth director. SRGC is a USPSA ruled match and the one in OCT is the Area 6 so it will cost more than $30.
I would Practice dry at home on a few drills like drawing from a holster also practice with a carbine on your body with a front mont sling, then work on reloads with the pistol and rifle. Practice dry firing with both while moving and practice working the safety on and off. Practice getting into and out of different shooting positions, and practice loading the shotgun both for multiple rounds and single shots. Do some jumping jacks and then see how steady you can hold the guns while moving. I break it down this way stage management is about 30% and shooting 40% and 20% is gun operation. the other 10% is a wild ass guess. (or Luck) I can do all these things without ever firing a shot, You would be supprised how much this will improve your 3gun shooting. Then come out and Shoot. The biggest competition on the range is the one between your brain and your hands. Scott www.inquesttrainingacademy.com |

RBGC and Creekside are indeed good ones. You will find that they very different as well. Each will throw curves at you from time to time, demonstrating that when you think you have decent load out...you are wrong and will need to readjust.
Practice, Practice... come out and compete. Winning might be good, but trying new gear, optics, weapons in a semi-stressful environments has tons of benefits as well. |
