I might go to see if I can find a Wookie to fuck.  I was once told that Dragon Con is the only place youc an get drunk and fuck a wookie.  And before you say anything about wookies being dudes ... most of them are actually females.  The dudes want the armor and shit ... plus the wookies get to hang out with Han Solo.

2:30pm Friday Shepard Book(Ron Glass) will have a Question and Answer Session at Dragon*Con. He seems to be the only cast member to show this year. Since the Book backstory comic is coming out soon(may be out, I am not sure) this should be pretty good. I have missed the past couple years, but quite few of the actors used to show up. He will also be in a 'Working with Joss Whedon" panel Sat or Sun with other Whedon actors. Not really interested, only going the one day, maybe.

I'll be there.  First year in a while I won't have "Guest of" on my badge (soon-to-be-ex-wife is an author).  My usual hangout when not attending panels or tracking down old friends is the bar area in the Hyatt, including out on the smoking deck (although I don't smoke, many of my friends do, including STBX's former coauthor).

I'm being dragged lured there by my airsoft team. I've seen some pictures like the ones posted here and I've been told that if you have any game at all . . .

I will be outnumbered so I won't be dishing out noogies to every passing Trekkie I see.

My brother wants me to go with him.  He's dying to get Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner's autographs, and they're both supposed to be there.  I'd be more interested in seeing Charisma Carpenter and Catherine Bach (Daisy Duke).  He may not go if I don't go with him, but I'm afraid I'll look like a nerd.  It's hard enough to avoid being (nerd)engineer2001 after people find out I went to Tech for years upon years.  Pics of me in a nerd herd could go in my permanent file or something and ruin me for life.

Plus, it's like really expensive, and I don't really like SciFi stuff that much anymore since I took up shooting as a hobby again and had a kid.  No time for dragons and spaceships anymore.

Anyway, I'm on the fence right now.  I don't want to go, but I don't want to ruin my brother's chances of meeting his heroes either.

Dragon*Con is the best floor show in the South East.  Think "Geek Mardi Gras".  Especially Friday and Saturday nights.  I have seen women wearing only body paint, or body paint with a bikini bottom (or one who was wearing body paint with a cord around her waist and a square of cloth hanging down in front and in back, but everything was quite visible when she moved).  You'll see people dressed up as every possible character from just about any science fiction or fantasy tv show or movie, including some fairly obscure ones that only ran one season in 1975...  I'll admit, Dragon*Con is so big that unless you have an idea of what you want to go see, it's easy to be overwhelmed.

There is a guy who drives around Kennesaw/Acworth in a old Nova with a big red jagged wood wing on the car. I always saw him and was like WTF?? Well I found out...come dragon con he converts it to a Klingon Bird of Prey and put it in the parade....I ran into him once in the QT on Bells Ferry. He had on one Red and one Black leather type biker boot and didn't look far off from one of the guys in the movie .

Onsite registration for all four days is $100.  That includes all of the panels, concerts, snacks in the Con Suite, etc... It does NOT include the banquet, some of the paid autograph sessions (for many of the actors, paid autographs are a significant money-maker, especially the former porn stars and mid-level actors and actresses), and a few other things.  They have daily passes or shorter-term passes (ie, three day passes sold on Saturday, two day on Sunday).  I went ahead and bought my pass for next year for $50.

Guns are verboten. Even weapons used as costumes must be peace-bonded, whatever the fuck that means. There is tons of security walking around looking at the freakshow too.

From Wikipedia

A peace-bonding is a conspicuous lock, tie, or mark which makes or identifies something as unusable as a weapon, that is, that the owner's intentions are purely peaceful.

At some conventions or public events, attendees carry real weapons or costume props that appear to be weapons. To prevent attendees from using real weapons at such events, the security team peace-bonds anything that might look like a weapon.[1]

The event's weapons policy may offer subjective criteria to determine what looks like a weapon. For example, a weapons policy may require a peace-bond for anything that a reasonable person might recognize as a weapon from a short distance in dim light. Real weapons, if allowed, are disabled, secured, and marked. For example, bright orange zip ties may be used to hold a sword in a scabbard or to hold a pistol in a holster. Simulated or costume props may require conspicuous marks, such as bright ribbons or zip ties, to show that security has deemed them safe to carry. Simulated weapons or props which can be used as a weapon may be disabled or secured just like real weapons.

Peace-bonding helps security control prevent attendees from bringing or using real weapons to the event; anything that looks like a weapon but which is not peace-bonded is immediately suspicious.

This term is used at science fiction and fantasy conventions.

Well I understand what Dragon-Cons gun policy is, same as the restaurant I go to for trivia. I wont be attending Dragon-Con, I will simply be regular old Joe Citizen who is walking the streets in the same area as Dragon-Con is taking place. Will all of the crowds associated make it a defacto "public gathering?" I still carry at my trivia restaurant because there is no LAW to prevent me, just a silly sign.

My brother went without me.  He said everyone was in costume but him.  William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are pompous jerks (my words - he loves them) who charge $80 for each autograph, which he couldn't afford.  Everyone else he wanted to see was cool.  There were tons of naked and semi-naked chicks walking around, including one woman who was naked except for Superman stickers on her nipples and some kind of small crotch covering.  It seems to be an attention whore convention more than anything.  Decent to semi-skanky-looking chicks go basically or even completely naked (body paint instead of clothes) to find new boyfriends.

There was a dude with a large, framed picture of every Star Trek captain/base commander from the series and movies (Kirk, Picard, Janeway, Sisko, etc.) autographed by each of the actors, and the seller wanted like $3500 for it.  No one knew where anything was.  Every volunteer/security person he asked gave him a different floor/hotel for anything he asked about - stars, shows, etc.

Seems like a clusterfrack as far as organization from what he said.

He said *the* coolest thing was a guy in the parade dressed up as the main bad dude from The Road Warrior in a replica of the bad guy's car, including two "dead body" dummies on poles on the front.

Ive got semi crappy pictures of the parade I'll try to get online later.  Overall the Con sucked as usual....I really only go for two things anymore:

1.) Venture Brothers panel....listening the creators is worth paying for one day.
2.) To pick up Art from the Comic artists there.....Picked up the original art for a upcoming Marvel Zombie cover of "capt america"......

And yes the whores are strong this year.
