Persons under 21 years can no longer purchace a receiver/frame and an FFL may not transfer a receiver to an unlicensed person from another state.

I thought this happened a while ago with the latest revision of the 4473. I've been denying sales for at least 3 months to under 21 on receivers. You must be 21 or over to purchase an "OTHER" Firearm.

I had heard that a few months ago. This hasn't yet been an issue for me but this is the first clear ruling I have found.

So, can you purchase complete rifles?  What's the difference?  The stripped receiver MIGHT be built into a pistol?  For that matter, a complete rifle MIGHT be reassembled into a pistol.  Or it MIGHT be converted to an unregistered SBR.

I hate the ATF.

Their rules only apply to people who abide by their rules.

Legally a rifle cannot be made into a pistol.

Then again, like the man above me said.

The same goes for shotguns with only a pistol grip and no stock.

Correct, because they cannot be considered a long gun.

Does that mean you can get one with a pistol grip and shorter than 18" barrel without the paperwork?

Does this mean that my Mossberg 500 that came with both a pistol grip and a seperate wood stock 20 years ago is no longer legal with the pistol grip installed?

Negative. It's still considered a shotgun, just not a long gun.

On the 4473 it's logged out as Mossberg/500/X123456/Shotgun/12. I just check the OTHER box, not the Long Gun Box.

It's totally legal. Nothing is illegal about it. It is illegal for ME [FFL Dealer] to sell a shotgun [to someone under 21] with a pistol grip and no stock on the shotgun. A full length stock w/ pistol grip [Think Knoxx Stock] is totally legal, but a FACTORY made shotgun with a pistol grip, no stock, is illegal for me to sell to someone under 21.

I know, it's dumb as shit, but hell, look who I'm dealing with. They make the rules. It's their ball and we have to play their little game.

No, then it's "Any Other Weapon."

Still an NFA weapon but the tax is much less.

As long as the barrel is over 18" and the OAL does not fall below 26", the stock (or lack thereof) is irrelevant at the Federal level.

Some state or local laws may apply.

The TRANSFER Tax is only $5, but the manufacturer's tax is still $200 [Think form 1]. That $200 is usually rolled into the gun you're buying on a form 4.

I think smaller then 18" barrel is an aow, look at the super shorty it has a vfg though so not sure which one makes it the aow.I also found out that if you as an  individual build an aow it is 200 dollar tax stamp but if an sot assembles it even if you provide all the parts it is a 5 dollar tax.Crazy huh.Of course the sot will charge you close to the 200 to build it anyways.

Yeah, I know. He said "get" one, not "make" one, so I assumed that he meant buy it that way.

So if I understand correctly if I am a military member from another state and I am stationed in GA I can no longer buy firearms.
