I got some silicone bathroom caulk to try for a better seal first. It looks like there was a little shrinkage around the drain and the shower bottom that was hidden by the cover. I'm hoping a nickel's worth of seal there will end the issue.

dont use silicone, go buy some plumbers putty, pull up the drain cover, lay a rope around where the drain is going to seat back on the tub.  Put rope of plumbers putty down then push drain into it and refasten it down.  The plumbers putty is going to stay pliable and seal.

this stuff was a mixture with both latex and silicone which is waterproof, mildew resistant, and flexible... it says...

Sorry been in Mexico all week.

Can't see that link of my BB. The stuff the old lady at HD told me to use was in a red and black tube.

Did you replace the screw in PVC part, friction washer, and rubber washer?  Then all the silicone was used for was to seal the metal grate back on.

Mine hasn't leaked in almost 5 yrs now.

looking at it I am hoping that the innerds were ok and that the metal grate was all that needed sealing. if it still leaks I'll replace the innner bits too...

I might need that. Have some trouble with water damage.
