I need a flip up rear sight for my RRA. Give me some recommendations. From scanning the forums, it would seem Magpul/Troy are the leading choices.
How about some HTF opinions? And if you are a big fan of the front sight too, let me know. |

For flip-up Troy or KAC for me. I don't care for the plastic Magpul sights at all and you couldn't give me a set.
Troy's have same plane aperture. They are durable for sure. I use them on most of my guns. KAC 300-meter is steel. No dual aperture and no locking detent. If you want fixed the Kiser Aperture is hands down my favorite. I personally use all these sights. Mark |

I get all my BUIS from here
no really I got a PAIR for $12. of course they are on my .22. they actually aren't that bad. they were good enough to get 6th in the .22 2xgun match a few weeks back. |
| For a rear sight I prefer the ARMS #40 or 40L. All my rifles that have BUIS have the standard front sight gas block. I know some of ARMS other products aren't that popular, but their rear sights are really good. I have had two Troy rear sights that had to be run all the way to the left to get them to zero. The thing I like most about the arms is that they are spring loaded in the up position and if you knock them against something, they just fold back then spring back up. I think some of the flimsy locking pins on some of the other designs would break easily IMHO. The Troys look cool though. |

| for folding rear sights I prefer the Troy or the KAC, I am testing a Brownells flip up rear right now and so far it is doing well in my testing. For fixed rear I like the Larue or the new Troy fixed is a hot setup. As far as adjusting the troy all the way one side or the other is either a canted FSB or an improperly torqued barrel, I have fixed about 5 Bushmasters with that issue |
| One was on a RRA entry tactical that the factory detachable handle was centered to zero, the other was on a colt with the factory handle was also centered. I would not have posted that if it had been on the same rifle. The ARMS that is on the RRA now is also centered more or less. I assumed that the machining on the troy bases was off in some way. Not trying to start a shit storm, but that was my experience. (edit) to clarify, in my original post I said "all the way" this is not necessarily correct both sights were about 7/8 of the way to the left. I thought it was the rifle for the first one, but when a second one was the same way, I switched. |

On the flip Up style I am with everyone else on the Troy Bandwagon. They're solid.
If you were however looking for a fixed BUIS I've fallen in love with the new DD A1.5 Fixed Iron Sight. It uses an A1 style windage system and an A2 aperture. It's rock solid and light weight. |
| I like Troy. They fold pretty low so mounting a scope that runs over the top is pretty easy. I've also had outstanding success with my GG&G buis (NOT the MADD model). I've had it for over 6 years, its been flip up and down no telling how many times, i've sent it to Iraq with a ranger and Afghanistan with a Marine. It has served all three of us very well. |
