OK.
I spoke to M4-Stag and we are preparing a audio team to record noise levels to demonstrate the absurdity of the claims of the Anti's. We need the following: Two LEO's Two videographers - with cameras Two shooters - with guns and ammo We also need a common day and time all can get together. I can't do a poll on the BB so I'll add a poll from the suggestions when I get off today. Work sucks. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile Doug, there is a shotgun class on the 13th that should be over about 4-5 pm. There will be plenty of people there anyway and I'd be glad to help. We can do the testing, then have a bite to eat afterwards. Just throwing that out there. |
my brother can be a camera man since hes all about it with his video production degree. his camera is like some 3k camera and the same one that jackass apparently used too. although he recorded me at the .22 2gun so i can review my stance, positioning, mag changes, overall run performance, and to show friends and family and he ended up recording the targets i shot and not me actually shooting!!!!!
i only have guns and ammo |

i only have guns and ammo +1 saw this during the .22 match. his camera looked to cost more than my entire armory! if you need a HiFi camera this would be it. although you only need his bro. I wouldn't let Fury come.......

lol sorry, kinda a little vent there... it just pissed me off that all that work and the video is practically useless for what i wanted, so you do have to tell him and make sure he is doing what you want. but i dont think recording the audio testing and everything would be a problem. |

Anybody know offhand how much the temperature affects how the sound carries? The trains carry a shitload further during cold weather. I don't know for sure, but I do know that the colder the air (at the same altitude) the denser it is. Given that and the fact that cold air typically holds more moisture, that sound waves would encounter more resistance, meaning that they would not carry as far. But then again, I usually don't know what I am talking about. |

Ok guys here's the deal. 2 teams. Team 1 Fire team: Wep list, 22, 5.56, 308, 50 cal. Yes I need a 50cal with 8 rounds. Also 1 full auto 5.56. I also want a Harley, straight pipes preferred. 2 Cell phones, 2 watches. Video guy with spare batteries as the 10 min or so vid shots cannot be interrupted for any reason! Bring spare batteries have it all charged with an AC back up If your camera dies I'm going to feed you to Joe's dog. We are going to shoot about 60 minutes of video thru the day. Maybe less. 1 witness. An officer of the court or a LEO will do fine. Team 2 Geek squad: Audio guy, that's me Video guy, same rules apply to vid guy as above. Your gear cannot fail. 1 Witness. An officer of the court or a LEO will do fine. 1 GPS guy who knows his way around the area as he doubles as driver and can point the direction of the range from our locations. A really good GPS is needed that can do point to point is needed. The neighborhood is not within sight of the range and I will need to know the direction the range is. This is a must. We will take readings at 6 locations starting at 100yds off the line then 500. 2 readings from the main road within sight of the range. Then we go into the 'offended neighborhoods' and take readings. GPS / Driver guy must already know where this is. We call, you shoot 1 round of each caliber in a 10 second interval then a 15 round burst and a revving of the Harley motor. Dirt dog simple. We do this 6 times. Video rolls at both locations at the same time. All readings get recorded on video and paper. Ill need someone to edit and sync both vids to a split screen presentation in the best res we can get it in and put it on DVD. A little wording and numbers added at key points in the vids to highlight the readings. Test hours will be between 10a-6p. It must be dry, as in no rain for the past 48 hours. As long as GPS / driver guy has been to the offended hood prior to the tests we can do this in a few hours. A weekday is prefered as I don't want any one shooting during the tests. A members only day would work best because we can control the range easier. Crew will met at 9am for chow, planning and coffee at the nearest place on the selected day. This ought to be a piece of cake, look nice as the commission will see this. |

NO 50 cal needed. We cannot shoot 50 cal on the range due to insurance purposes. So dont even worry about that.
And personally I wouldnt try to "set" anything up, I would just go one a normal day when volume of people usiong the range is the highest, that is when the most noise is going to be produced. You cant "set this up" it has to be natural. |

I appreciate everyone's effort but I already have a professional crew set up to do this. Looks like Joe already has this under control. And a study done by a professional company would likely carry more weight with those making the decisions. (not to say we couldn't do a great job on our own) |
| Gem tech has some of the literature about testing available. The Paulson books are good reads as well. Gem-tech books for sale |
| Having to deal with sound issues is something I have had to deal with in my job. I'll try to find a willing seismic/sound monitoring company than can set up a device which will register the sound levels. State law says 140 db from the site to the nearest inhabited dwelling. My bet is its less than the road noise in front of their homes, probably around 90db. I'll see if i can find someone that will do this and get back to you guys. |
