| So I have been wanting to get another .22 can for a while now. A couple ofyears ago, I bought a YHM Mite. I got it right after they came out and I am dissapointed in it's performance to say the least. It will not disassemble anymore despite there being no obvious baffle strikes when you look down the bore. The sound reduction sucks as well. So this leads me to want something better. I was thinking SWR Spectre. I like it because it is tough as nails, you can take it apart and I can get one for a little less than $400. What other options should I consider besides the AAC cans(priced too high). I know that liberty had something that piqued my interest, but I don't know mmuch about them. |
|
Maybe I didn't shop around enough, but I didn't think the AAC stuff was expensive. It was also stocked by my local crack dealer, so I had no worries about availability, warranty issues, or any other potential problems. To me the dealer is as important as the toy when it comes to NFA items.
Now, to answer your question in a different way, if I was looking for another toy. I would get one that was stainless steel and rated for full-auto. My rimfire interests have expanded and its sucks that I can't use a .22 can on a .17 HMR. So, my suggestion is to get one that is rated for ALL rimfire calibers. Accountant |

Quoted: AAC Pilot FTW ![]() if you are coming to the .22 match tomorrow I am sure there will be several there you can try out. you can check out my pilot if you want. and I didn't think it was very expensive at all! agree, I love my pilot. But, last time I saw mark he had all this new super cool shit in the way of .22 cans and some of them were crazy quiet and were also able to be disassembled. I wish I could take my pilot apart. |
| To meet both of my requirements, the AAC are more expensive than the competition. The only .22 cans I know of that come apart from AAC are the Prodigy and the Element. Both cost more than the Spectre. I thought maybe the Tactical Inovations Quest may be suited to me, I just don't know how it sounds. What else is out there? |
|
If you want CHEAP, works well, comes apart easily then TRY a tactical innovations can. Other cans are more quiet, more better, etc. but I wanted something that I could abuse and return for repairs without issues or hassles. I have not had to send it in yet... I got mine for $180. It comes apart every time and the only neighbors who notice me shooting in the backyard are the dogs in the local area. No matter what I'm using, I always put anti-sieze on my threads, and inside the can-endcaps so it comes apart at the end of the day. You can pick up a tube of anti-sieze at any auto-parts store for like two bucks and it will save you A LOT of cussing fits. Respectfully, Ken |

Well there is a really cool can out right now. Its the Sparrow by Silencerco. Now yall know that I enjoy AAC prodeucts, they have given me some stuff in the past and I try to pimp their stuff every chance I can. IF Mark hadnt given me such a good deal on the Pilot that he sold me I would be seriously looking into the Sparrow. for more info you can see it HERE. And I believe that Marky is a stocking dealer for them as well. Slow97GT has shot the Sparrow and said that will be his next 22 can.

Buy once, cry once. You bought low-end the first time and are disappointed with it. Don't buy another low-end can.
The Sparrow kicks ass. It is a wonderful product. The Spectre kicks ass. It is a wonderful product. The Element I've played with several times and it kicks ass. However, the one I played with was a pre-production prototype. I'll believe it when I see (and hear!) it as a production item, which should be next week. The Cascade MC is okay. It is a tad louder than the previous three cans mentioned and has slightly more noticeable first round pop. The Quest doesn't impress me in the least. I'll type more later when I have time. We only stock what we like enough to buy for ourselves. We buy one of everything and try them out so we have first-hand (and ear!) experience with them all. Mark |

Hey lucky 13, I don't know where you live at in Georgia but if you're anywhere near Hiram there is a place called C3 Defense.
They manufacture their own suppressors and I believe they make a .22 can for somewhere in the $165 or $175 range. I forget the guys name but if you go there, ask to compare their cans to other brands and they will gladly show you side by side comparisons. Unfortunately, they do not list any of the suppressors on the web site but here is a link. C3 Defense |
| I may have a line on an integral suppressed Ruger MK II by Norrel here in GA. The guy wants a little more than I want to spen, but I have to admit, it is a sexy pistol. If I don't go that way, the Spectre is still in the lead with the sparrow close behind. Anyone ever hear the two side-by-side? |

I havent heard the two side by side but I did see a Spectre take a squib 22 and have it stuck yesterday while shooting the 22 match. Good thing about the Spectre is that it is all steel and the guy took it apart right there on the spot and got the squib out. |

I was at Bookhounds a while back right after he got the sparrow and we tryed the sparrow aginst my spectar on a pistol.
They were very much the same in sound with maybe a little lower tone from the spectra. The spectra is heaver but not enough to bother me, and rated for full auto ,and other calibers. I shot my spectra for severl thousand rounds with out cleaning . End caps came off easley but had to tap the baffels out with a wooden dowel. They came out with no damage and a little soak in vineger & peroxcide and every thing clened right up. This thing is a TANK and I would'nt have anything else. MoblMec |

Mark If he hadn't said it on here already, I was going to quote him! "Buy once, cry once!" I just sent in my Form 4 for a Sparrow. Book can get you setup with one and you won't be dissapointed! Look into the design and you'll be impressed. The advantake is the two half tubes that encase the baffle stack. They keep all the lead and crap away from your outer tube and off of your threads. They also make an adapter for .5x28, P22, and Mosquito that is extended and will work with the O ring in the Sparrow to keep it from coming loose. The Cascade MC is noticeably louder than anything I've shot. The AAC products are excellent but I would definitely go with a serviceable model. A guy over on silencertalk put 1300 rounds through his sparrow without taking it apart. The pictures of the baffle stack are enough to disturb you if you don't have a serviceable can. Pictures and description are posted over there but the link won't work unless you're signed in. |

MoblMec That is what I like about the spectre. It has steel internal, making it a lot easier to clean chemically. As to everyone telling me to "buy once, cry once," I have lived with that mantra for many years. The problem I am having is that the only reason I shoot the .22 is to save money. To spend $500-600 plus the $200 tax kind of defeats the purpose. I have never understood why people that don't shoot competition have $1000 .22's. But to each their own I guess. |
|
$1000 on a .22 really isnt' as hard as it sounds.
A CZ452 is $500 in most cases Scope & rings add another $200 or more Bi-pod $80 or better Trigger job, and threaded barrel All that and you're up to amost $1000 The 10/22 game add's up even quicker! Base gun at Wally World $200 Hogue OM Stock $85 Tacsol or GM barrel $250 or better Scope & Rings $200 or better Trigger work or trigger pack $100-200 Again..almost $1000 If you're going to shoot a .22, or anything for that matter...Why not save up and get the best you can afford. I want to know that my rifle, even my .22's will group consistently and that I can put rounds where I want. I certainly can't afford to do it all at once so I save my penny's, wait for deals, and do it right. Shooting certainly is NOT a budger friendly hobby. |
| How about $129 for a Ciener AR15 conversion? How about $200 for a 10/22 with iron sights? I am willing to be that with my $250 Ruger Charger that I got used, I could outshoot the majority of people with higher dollar set-ups within fifty yards. I just don't understand the logic that money and aftermarket add-on's are worth spending on a non competition .22lr. Es[ecially when the main draw for the caliber is it's price per round. It is not my money that other people are spending so whatever makes them happy is cool with me, It is just not for me. |

We picked up the first batch that left the AAC factory today. I will be taking lots of pictures and will shoot them next to the Sparrow, Spectre and others tomorrow. The cans look very nice for sure.
Oh, the guys at the courthouse tonight got a sneak peek in the parking lot. Mark |
| Mark, I've got an AR57 I need to outfit with a suppressor. It's the 11" version, so I can't fit my .223 suppressor on it. Out of the Spectre and the Element (your site says both will stand up to the 5.7x28 round), which would be the best? I've already got a YHM .22 suppressor for my Buckmark, so I'm not too concerned with weight or length. Thanks in advance for your input. |
|
At this point the Spectre is a proven design. I only have now about 200 rounds through the Element. I'd get the Spectre for your application. On that weapon you won't notice the extra weight of the Spectre. Save the extra $100. Just my pre-coffee off the cuff answer. |
