I think they will all be about the same. The only issue is if it has m4 feed cuts.If the upper has the cuts the barrel must also have them.If the barrel has feed cuts you can use an upper with or with out the cuts.Usually an upper with the cuts will be an a4 and without is an a3.
I recently found an upper (a2) here on the ee for 50 dollars. Not sure of the make but it looks unfired and also fits my lower very nicely. The beauty of the ar15 is that most parts will match up nicely.
In todays climate i suggest just getting one and being happy.

I may be mistaken, but I think that the opposite may be true.  If the barrel does not have M4 cuts, it doesn't matter if the receiver does or does not.  But if it has m4 cuts, the receiver must as well.  Again, I could be wrong but I thought that the ridge inbetween the m4 ramps would cause FTFs if bullets caught themselves on it as the rifle fed them to the chamber.

I also meant to say that kblagg from Ballistic Sounds Tactical may have some Mega uppers in stock.  I really like the brand for function, fit and finish.

Both my uppers DO NOT have feed ramps but both my barrels do,i have never had a feeding issue with them.It is more important for the barrel to be cut with the ramps then the upper as the upper with cuts is a very minimal amount of space compared to the barrels. This is not the most technical answer and i am sure that it could be explained better.I know though that a barrel without cuts needs an upper without cuts to avoid a feeding issue.Personally i wouldn't buy a barrel without the ramps but that is just me.If the upper had cuts/ramps and the barrel did not then the bullet would be feeding into the flat of the barrel as apposed to over it and cause feeding problems.I would think the edge of the casing could get stuck on the flat of the barrel as it tried to pass over it.

If your upper has M4 cuts and your bbl does not, that is not good.

If your bbl does and your upper doesn't, that sucks much less.

I have a mill...mine get the cuts I want them to have. >:/

M4 cuts on the barrel extension and receiver = good
M4 cuts on the barrel extension and not on the receiver = good
M4 cuts on the receiver and not the barrel extention (ie a rifle barrel extension, usually 16" Hbar or 20" A2) = bad - creates a gap that the nose of the bullet can get caught in.
