HR sent out an email this afternoon informng us that for the next 6 weeks we will have Cobb County police providing security between 8am and 8pm.  So, after securing my tin foil properly, I get to wondering why, especially since we had more layoffs last week.  I asked my manager if they have done this before and he said he couldn't recall them doing it in the eight years he has been there.

Armed with sufficient paranoia I fire off an email to HR with a very eloquent WTF?  The response was basically that it is for extra security as they have had a few car break-ins, etc.  She also told me they did this back in 2005.  Now why, if it is so important that our vehicles don't get broken into, do they only do this every three years?  I am going with my initial "employee going postal" theory and have deployed the

Sweet.  Looks like the employee going postal theory was the right choice

In all seriousness though, one of the people let go is an ex Marine who apparently went a little bullshit when they told him he was fired.  They arranged for him to come back that evening to pick up his stuff and they had police there, "just in case".

So, there is some basis in my paranoia,

So waitaminute- they are laying people off and paying Off Duty Cops $30+ an hour to provide "security" that makes your business, whatever it is, absolutely No Money whatsoever. That's $360 a day PER cop. That's $1800 per week, $93k per year. PER COP.

Sounds like a sound investment, where do you work, Circuit City?

Is that supposed to put the idea that there are a lot of CCPD on this forum and people should fear what they say?

Yeah, I'd say there's a good reason for the CCPD to be there.  They have better things to do than watch your cars in the parking lot, right?  Any $10/hr security guard with a flashlight can do that - the real police would be overkill.

I think your "something's up" Spidey sense is tingling for a valid reason.  Hope everything works out well.

No to me it simply means this.

Don't publicly post your intentions to A) break the law or B) break company policy

In this case he's publicly announced he's going to break his company policy in regards to firearms and B he's done it on a forum where the group that will be providing the "security" posts and reads.

Not the smartest thing to do in my opinion. But hey it's a free country/internet.

Where?  I must have missed that.  Does their policy prohibit arming oneself with paranoia?  Thats the only thing he mentioned in regards to arms that I saw.
