I am looking to purchase a chest rig for an upcoming Tactical Carbine class. I would like something that will accommodate several 30 rd mags, while not breaking the bank. I "think" I have found one that will fit my needs, but I am not to sure. What da' think? www.skdtac.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=722 |
| Eagle is the best one made in my opinion. I bought one from Mark (PSI) He usually keeps them in stock. One thing I would recommend is to try one out first b/c what works for me - might not work for you. You are more than welcome to run mine during the match if you like. |
One of my shooting/comp buddies uses it and loves it, I dont have personal use but he swears by it for the price. If I needed one I would have no issue buying that one. |
| I've used them and abused them in training and Comps. For the price they are hard to beat! But all that being said I spent a little more and got a RRV. hard to find at times. but they have a little more room on the panel and it rides better on my body type... again YMMV. Try one on. then try one on loaded down how you would use it and run around with it. thats the only way to really tell. |
Love mine. Does just what you need and not more. Also got it from SKD. Not too bulky that you can do what needs to be done with minimal fuss. Only thought is, and this applies to most chest rigs I've tried, that the shoulder straps can rub your neck raw so wearing something with a collar is usually a good idea. here are some pics from a recent carbine class where we did some relatively dynamic exercises. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
Easier to ditch? Why would you want to ditch your magazine carrier? I've been using one of those LE carriers for a couple years now in many classes and matches and have never had the rig "ride up" on me. Do you even own one of these, Doug? |
sometimes the more extreme the Dunlap, the more a rig/soft body armor/carrier will "ride up". Dunlap: the angular curvature of the lower abdomen as in "My belly done lapped over my belt." ...just sayin'... |
I did... but every time I had to lay prone behind something the magazines dug into my chest. I found that a maxpedition colossus pack (with several molle packs) over one shoulder is easier to carry, doesn't bounce around, doesn't get in the way if you have to get down, and if you have to crawl on your stomach you can leave it in an instant. I went to a backpack for awhile but hard to grab mags and when you've used your mags it's hard to get rid of and then you are carrying extra weight. I imagine it depends on what you intend on doing. I can't hit squat unless I'm flat on the ground and stuff on your chest makes things harder when you crawl around. Why would you want to carry an empty mag carrier? or do you have plates in yours? |
That is true too... |
Very true!!
Not sure I'm following. I use the carrier to carry full mags. Empties get dropped or stored in a cargo pocket/drop pouch. |
Ahh there he is. |
actually, It's my bad, mine is this version: SKD/Eagle Paul Howe Rig It's not the same one the OP had linked to. My bad guys, sorry about the confusion. |
Right so you start out with a full carrier full of mags and you dump mags as you go and then you have an empty carrier that is attached to you. If you have a bag you can drop it when you have your last mag out of it. |
Because If I run out, I am going to take some mags from the people I just killed and refill as needed. |
Had to do a google search to figure out how this works. This harness was designed to work in conjunction with our Modular Assault Vest (MAV). It plugs into the existing shoulder straps on the MAV. The X Harness is ergonomically designed to provide maximum comfort. It is padded with .25" foam and features a drag handle on the back. There is PALS webbing on the front harness and back so any modular pouches can be added. |
Thats nice who makes it? |
