Hi guys. I have been working on finishing my BOB and getting the last few final parts together for it. I am missing some good maps of North Georgia and the mountains. I know some of you guys must know the best place to get these sort of maps with all the backroads and everything I would need in an emergency situation. Thanks in advance for the help.

You can get them DNR or Forestry Division. They're pretty cheap, IIRC.

When you get the 7.5 minute quad maps its a good idea to drive/hike some of the places you think you may want to go. A lot of the roads that show on the maps are now impassable or totally gone. A lot are on private property and in a SHTF situation would get you shot in those areas. Just points to ponder........

You can also go to store.usgs.gov/b2c_usgs/b2c/start.do

Also a lot of areas that show as natural undisturbed land now have log cabin subdivisions on them if they area anywhere near hwy 515

So what all ya got in your BOB????

Good point about checking the areas out ahead of time. A compromise would be to go to google earth or similar and check the area for changes. you can then mark them on the map fairly accurately.

The aforementioned quad maps are a good start.
If you have a more specific reference point, I got my topos here.

Topo maps

They are great maps, waterproof option and reference the USGS quad maps that are included within the specified area.  If you're land navigating I recommend going with the 1:24,000 scale.
