Just wanted to drop in and say thanks to fro1911nut for directing me here. This is absolutely the best place I have found to get info for building my first AR.

Welcome! Uze in Jawja now so it's ok ifin u talk funny.
I'm a southsider so I'm allowed to..
Some of these guys are so smart they even taught me to build one of these black rifles.
The rest just sit around and drink beer and grumble a lot. They dont know shit, but they know somebody who does.
Pretty good crew all in all though.

It's a big place, nose around and you can find most anything you can imagine cept for crack, we dont have crak. Cept the Plumber Carl, now he has some crack, but its disgusting.
Sorry Carl. But you have the worst case of hairy asscrack in Henry County. All 342 pounds of it.

Make sure you have a claw hammer for you build. Claw hammers are key precision tools for applying just the right amount of kinetic energy to seat pins and bolt carriers.

welcome!

claw hammer?  I thought it was a 4 pound sledge that was your friend ?  Knocks the trigger guard pins in with ease.

It's a reference to a somewhat famous pic of Mark using a claw hammer to beat open an AR.

Oh, and welcome SLOW.

Well, if he goes to the very top thread and clicks on the EE link, he might find a nice Eagle Arms lower with either an Armalite A2 or an ArmaLite A4 upper.

Howdy!  Come out and play sometime.

Regarding the claw hammer, I've used that thing to beat open at least two ARs.  The last time it got used on an AR was last April in a training class following a KB thanks to some "quality" ammo.  Blew up the rifle and we had to beat the bolt carrier back.  First time was on KBlagg's AR first day at the range.  Had a primer pop on some Q3131A (IIRC) and get stuck in the cam pin recess of the bolt carrier.  Freak jam.  But even after beating on the rifle there wasn't even a scratch.  Got to use the hammer this Sunday to install a TacSol Pac-Lite.  Not a scratch.  It does look scary though.

This is what I use to beat my guns.  It's the mallet lying on right:

Actually, I posted this pic in the M14 section and someone started ragging on me about having that to beat my rifles into submission.

They were also wondering about the oven mitt, but the answer to that is also in the picture.  I wasn't using it on the M14S, but that wasn't the only rifle there that day.
