some one spill the beans, last info I heard was around 17:00 saying that they were all rolled up together and the next update would be shortly after dinner...... I'm about to go to bed, ate dinner long time ago....still no news. Edit: looks like it passes!!! |
|
HB89 came out of conf committee, did not include church carry, does not reppeal the Pub Gathering language but it does include everything from HB257. It then proceeded to pass in both the HOUSE AND SENATE by overwhelming margins!!! CHECK HERE |
|
We get carry in: State Parks, historic sites, recreation areas WMAs restaurants that serve alcohol public transportation (e.g. MARTA) car carry without a license expanded (carry anywhere in car without license) GFLs issued faster, more efficient public gathering still there, but all in all not bad |
not bad at all? sounds freaking awesome to me! I guess the PG will be next year! |
Budder on GPDO has scanned copies oh the officail verbiage on his server...... ask him for a link to the URL Budder has asked that if those that want the link to the scans PLEASE do not let them out of the HTF as to not violate his bandwidth agreement |
|
sweeeeet! we'll take what we can get. Did anyone see the pics of the no votes from some reps on the hotlink above? I'm curious as to what the data looks like for gfl holders committing violent crimes (w/ guns)? I'm sure it is an extremely small if null percentage, right? If so, why all the no votes? After all, w/ the exception of car carry, this bill only applies to permit holders. Are the state reps as ill informed by the media as most citizens? Obviously it just seems like common sense to us though. Anyway, a GREAT day in GA! |
here's a video of it: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zf0l0vbNZ-c |
Yeehaw!![]() What we got:
|
all public transportation? including all local transit services? |
yea 106 nay 57 ![]()
|
yep, not just Marta |
Was this the ban on carry from restaurants that served alcohol as a major source of income? Does this remove restrictions from all types of restaurants? |

Group discussion should move forward now as well. Hopefully with the Governor signing off and the huge progress that we have made regarding these bills, the next steps for common sense legislation will be even greater freedom with regard to our right to protect ourselves. This is huge and mere words cant even explain what has transpired under the gold dome tonight! |
Can't they just each make their own "no carry, or you're trespassing" rules, still negating our ability to use public transit? Man, I can't wait to see the story in the AJC. HAHA! |
|
I like that a judge has to make a decision in 2 days on a ccl. I am disappointed on churches and public gathering taken out. Still a win for us. Some gun grabber said something like people who voted for it will probably regret it. I'm thinking they will regret watering it down |
|
I've heard there will be study committees in both the House and Senate. These will be very important as they will decide for a long time what changes in the law will be neccessary. GeorgiaCarry.Org is leading the pro-gun effort. Be sure to join GCO to help fund the effort. The alcohol drinking is a hot button for the Gov. and Lt.Gov. They don't like Georgians drinking, hence their opposition to Sunday sales and the "Gun or Beer" language. To be honest, I think we will always be banned from carrying in bars. Soon, we will be able to carry in Restrurants and on Marta. This is a huge step that most of us never thought would happen. Senator John Douglas was instrumental in getting the Restrurants for us. |
|
The way I read this, it states that if an establishment makes 50% of its profits from food sales it is legal for a Chl holder to carry in the restaurant.. That said, Will the business have to keep a posted sign that states their alcohol profit vs food sales? When does this go into effect? Does this mean that if my wife and I want to go to TGI O' Tuesdays and eat that I can carry now? ETA: Am I required to wear Gun "flair" or have a crew cut or wear 5.11 BDU's when in posession of my side arm? ![]() MARTA= Moving Armed Republicans Thru Atlanta! |
First they would have to figure out wich one of oyu was carrying, And i think you have enought "flair" as it is
As Dealdy for those that try to prey on the law abiding people of the state. So whats left for this to take effect? I wanna take marta to a restraunt downtown and not break the law! |
| Governor has to sign and bill usually take effect on July 1st unless there is a specific provision in the bill changing the date it goes into effect. Like last years Child Support guidelines when into effect January 1st this year to give more time to get a commission set up. |

gee the AJC article isn't as bad as I thought: www.ajc.com/metro/content/metro/stories/2008/04/04/guns_0405.html?cxntlid=homepage_tab_newstab Guns allowed in more public places with bill's passage Opponent says legislators will regret move By ANDREA JONES The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Published on: 04/04/08 Georgians with weapons permits will be able to carry guns in far more places under a bill that passed both chambers Friday night. An amended version of House Bill 89 allows holders of concealed weapons permits to carry guns into restaurants, state parks, and on MARTA trains and other public transportation. The legislation, which gun-rights proponents hailed as a major victory, also allows employees to leave weapons in parking lots as long as it's okay with the company. RELATED LINKS: • More about this year's Legislature Andrew Arulanandam, the spokesman for the National Rifle Association, which has been pushing hard for less restrictive gun laws in Georgia for more than two years, called it a "good piece of legislation." "We're gratified that the bill passed," he said. But business interests said they were pleased that one key provision of the bill, to permit employees to keep guns in cars parked on company lots, was watered down greatly. The bill gives property owners and those who lease property the right to forbid guns in their lots. Still, Alice Johnson, of Georgians for Gun Safety, called the bill "deadly legislation." "It's the most sweeping change in Georgia's history. It's awful," she said. "I think some of the folks who voted for it are going to regret it later." [Why in the hell is she ALWAYS in every AJC article!!! -SMP ] Earlier this session, the Republican-backed Senate gutted the bill, restricting the guns-in-parking lot provisions. Senators found themselves in a precarious position —- locked between the powerful National Rifle Association that backed the legislation and business leaders who vehemently opposed it. When it went back to the House, lawmakers amended the bill, expanding it to allow some Georgians to carry guns into churches, sporting events, state parks and public gatherings. Those provisions were stripped out in the final version. The bill allows permit holders to carry guns into restaurants as long as more then half the profits of the establishment come from food. Those carrying guns are also prohibited from drinking. The bill also speeds up the process for the renewal of gun permits, requiring probate court judges to respond within two business days following a request. |
| I stand corrected. I did not think they would do the right thing in this session. I figured it would take more sessions and more pressure. Heck I might even start riding marta again. I have personally had my life threatened two times on it. I bet the crime on marta goes to zero now. Does anyone know if the gubner is going to sign it? |
It depends. If you're hunting you're OK, if you are waving it around like an idiot you're not. Having the gun on the property don't mean all the other code sections no longer exist. Ex. You still can't have a firearm while archery hunting during archery season. GR |
To expound on Malum's response, they can't each make their own rules like property owners because they are not private, they are PUBLIC. It's not the same as the restaurants or other private property owners. This bill is dispositive of the public transit issue. |
Mark I am hoping that you are just joking about open carrying on marta especially once its first legal to do so. To me THAT is just what all the antis are wanting is a reason to repeal this bill and take it away from us due to the influx of people openly carrying on Marta and scaring the little children. |
