Until I hit the word "Force" I was deeply deeply disturbed...

Excellent scope, and I can only think of a few others that I consider to be better. The only downside is the lack of a first focal plane reticle, but I've heard they are fixing that this year

I hope I will when I get it. Jered has it at Patriot. When I go get my rifle it will all be together.

I can't wait to get all of my stuff together. The hold up is the paperwork in WV. Damn it all.

what does the view of something at 1,000yds look like? Can you make out anything at all or do you really have to look fine at your target?

Jered chopped and threaded the barrel on the rifle in that pic.  Fantastic job.

It depends on what you're shooting at, how it's colored and what the mirage looks like. I've seen the targets so obliterated by the mirage on the 1000yd line that you had to crank the scopes magnification way down to get at least a little bit of clarity. Otherwise it's all wishy-washy.
Removing the environment (mirage) from the equation, an F-Class 1000yd target isn't difficult to find at all. The targets at the 1000yd line at Hardrock is black on a white background, so it isn't difficult to see either. On the other hand, a sillouhette is a good size and isn't difficult to bisect-it's a lot easier to see if it's white vs. black or green though.

So I can only imagine how much mirage comes in to play in the summer months.

The farthest target in this pic is 1000 yds.  Mirage at Ft Benning in July was a biotch.

If you can fit it into your schedule, your best bet is to shoot early in the morning, (before 1000) or later in the afternoon (1700-dark). Anything in between and it can be a biatch.

It's good training. You can use the mirage for gauging your wind conditions as well as watching the vapor trail to assist in spotting your shots.

On a 1,000 yd. shot how much time elapses from the report of the round to the sound of impact?

1000yds is far enough away that I can't hear the bullet hitting the steel. With that said, the time of flight of a 175grn SMK travelling at 2650fps is 1.7 seconds to a 1000yds.

I don't recall the amount of time, but we used to joke about having sniper's ear where your ear stretches out waiting for the ping.
