I was going to PM our resident 3 gun gurus, but thought everyone could benefit from the info. When setting up your 3 gun belt how does one arrange everything so that you have easy access to your gear? I have two AR mags, two Glock mags blade tech holster and two 6 round CRC shotgun shell holders. I am running all this on a Bianchi belt. I am right handed. I run the holster on the right side (duh) and the CRC speed loaders just to the front of the holster and right of the belt buckle. Just out of the way when I go prone. On the left side I carry a double mag pouch for the glock mags and two blade tech AR15 mag holders. My goal is to run the CRC loaders with my left hand, but have no place to put them on the left side of my rig. So far I have been having to load my shotgun with my strong side, while effective there has to be a faster way. From what I have watched on you-tube and been told its quicker to load with the weak hand. How do the "go fast" guys run their belts? |

I'll start by saying.........the weak hand load is only faster if you can do it properly. Its not easy to do and takes lots of practice. Once mastered.....you can start to reap the benefits. The shotgun portion of multigun/3 gun is 25% shooting and 75% loading. If you are going to reload using the weak hand method......only the 4 round caddies should be considered since you are only grabbing 4 at a time to load unless you have hands like the Hulk. When the 6 round caddies are not full......shells bounce out during movement and 4 cannot be consistently drawn under stress of the timer. It can be done.....but not consistently. I only recommend the 4 round caddies be used. As for a belt setup for multi gun use. I run a CR speed 1.5" outer belt with a Comp-Tac kydex holster on my right side since I am right handed. Depending on the round count of the shotgun portion determines how many 4 round caddies I run in front of me. Sometimes as many as 6-4 round caddies. And most of the time I carry one reload of 20+ rounds depending on the caliber due to power factor that I'm using for pistol. I run two 30 round mags clamped together and sometimes carry one spare in a Talon Tactical pouch on my left side rear corner or I'll use a DPMS 45 rounder and carry the extra 30 just in case the 45 pukes.(45 round mags are always a big gamble) It really depends on the stage I am about to shoot as to how I configure my gear. Its always changing and I choose gear that reconfigures easily. For true 3 gun matches(each stage consists of shooting only one of the three weapons) I run dedicated belts. |

The first thing to look for when selecting ammunition pouches is modularity. Like 00Bullett, if I am only using one firearm on a stage, then I run a dedicated setup for that firearm. If I run two firearms, then I'll reconfigure my gear based on which firearm is primarily used for that stage, so if it's primarily a shotgun stage, I'll run my shotgun belt and add a pistol or rifle mag pouch depending on the stage and vice-versa. If I'm using all three firearms, then I usually run my shotgun caddies on the middle, then my pistol mags, then my rifle mags. I prefer this setup as I load my shotgun weakhanded and the caddies are pretty flat in case I have to go prone. Then I like to have my pistol mags followed by my rifle mags. I prefer to stack my mags around my waist based on their height. Positioning by height makes it easier to access whichever mags I need and prevents my pistol mags from "hiding" in behind my rifle mags. The whole key to the system is modularity. The ability to reconfigure your setup quickly is essential. VSP |
