| Anybody here have experience with Lugers? I have a line on one for $500. I have not seen it yet and just wanted to know what to look for and be aware of. The guys says its stamped 1917. He does not think it has matching numbers but does not know. I get get feeling his firearms knowledge stops at 30/30's. His story was it was found in peaces in a box after the grandfathers death. It does shoot. He doesnt have a digital camera and lives out by Augusta. Im thinking of offering $400 sight unseen. I think I can recover that if it turns into nothing. |

If you could get it for 400-450 I thing it would be a good deal, but I don't know. I don't remember the last time I even saw one. Check some of the other milsurp forums. Somebody asked where to get a luger in this thread www.surplusrifleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=31875 |

Lugers are a whole different can of worms. There are over 300 variations. The most common military Lugers are the Imperial Lugers from WWI, specifically the 1914 4" barrel military model (1914-1918) made by DWM or at the Erfurt arsenal. As in most specialty arms areas, it takes someone a little knowledgeable to tell a rare jewel from a mongrel. Mismatches usually kill the collector value although some mismatches are proper for rearsenaled weapons but that's another story. Most recently, even mismatched shooters are north of the figure you quoted. There are a couple of good Luger forums out there for info. Try Luger Forum or Jan Still's Luger Forum For prices, check GunBroker, GunsAmerica, or Simpsons. Take posted prices with a grain of salt. If you can get to it and take some pics and post it, that would help quite a bit. Lugers are well built, elegant & historic pistols. When evaluating Lugers - Caveat Emptor! |
