Wife just called & it appears our Genie autodoor might be in trouble. Does anyone here know/recommends someone in Norcross that can help fix a Genie? I'll have to go home to get more info as I'm at work. Thanks! |
Thank you very much for the very kind offer. I'll be sure to take you up on it if all else fails. =) It appears to be a Genie Intellicode screw drive but I can't read the data plate because whoever installed it did a royal Rube Goldberg job of it & covered up the data plate. The receipt shows it was bought in 2002; so the motor should be under warranty but the parts should be out. I don't see any paperwork to suggest that it was professionally installed (and by the looks of it, it probably wasn't). If I hit the emergency release I can lift the door, so we'll get my wife's car out no problem. If I reconnect the "sled" & hit the lift button, it sounds like screws are being stripped outta the wood, the whole track raises up towards the ceiling, & everything freezes (awful noise from the motor though). Genie gave me the # for Overhead door. I guess I'll give them a call in the morning to see what they can do/say. I need to also check our homeowners warranty (bought the place in late August 06) to see if that is covered or not. Thanks everyone & if anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears. |
I just called American Home Shield & they said "not covered". ![]() Got the wife's car out this morning so we're good for now. I'll call ODC to see what a service call would cost for them to diag the unit. Anyone ever put one of these unit up? It looks like a two* man job at least. Update after I get more info. *depending on beer "referenced" during operational activities. |
WOW, an actual helpful post. I am very proud of you.... Now to the OP, I would price the openers first....Its probably gonna be cheaper than paying ODC. to come out. I wanna say the openers start at 129 or so at home depot. Heres one for 161 bucks They are not all that hard to put up from what I understand, especially if you are just replacing. Buying a new one will also give you a new warranty, which is better than if OHD comees out and fixes it, then next week the motor burns out.... One suggestion I would make is to look the whole screw/carriage over real good before calling anyone. It sounds like something has gotten jammed in there pretty good. |

I'd hope that the OP had the homeowner's warranty company show him in writing how the garage door opener isn't covered. My daughter's homeowner's warranty has covered everthing from appliances to ac units, no questions asked. FWIW, all my posts are probably helpful to those competent to comprehend them. |

Replacing an old unit is easer than a new install; chances are you can reuse most of the existing connectors and hardware if you use the same brand. I did a replacement in 4 hours, it took that long because I put one of the rails in upside down and had to re-do the job.

Are you saying that I am not competent? |
