You're welcome to come over one day this week and try them both out side by side on your own rifle or one of mine. I have 512's, 552's, 2MOA Aimpoints, and 4MOA Aimpoints. |

For durability its the Aimpoint hands down. I like the Eotech personally but have also recently fell in love with the Leupold CQ/T. Eotechs batteries die when they don't need to if you know what I mean. Always......and I mean always have spare batts for an Eotech. The new 3rd gen Aimpoints can run for 50,000 hours on one small 3 volt cell on the lower settings. Eotech does not need a mount and the Aimpoint does. But for the Eotech to have a good effective field of view it needs to be set up on a riser when running hard iron sights. The new 553 Eo has a mount and already sits up but it comes at the same price an Aimpoint and good Larue mount cost too. Next is dot size in the Aimpoints. The newer gen 3 can be had with a 2 or 4 moa dot. The gen 2's only had a 4 moa dot unless you got the horrible 2x magnififed. I prefer the 2 moa dot. I pick it up on target fast and it is more precise at extended ranges. Alot of folks prefer the 4 moa because it is faster for them to pick up on target faster. [smiley_goatee] YMMV That should help you form your own decision. |
| You need to just try them both out to compare. Nothing anyone on this site is going to say will give you the kind of knowledge to make a sound judgement quite like side-by-side comparison @ the range. I, for one, find the holograhpic crosshair/reticle on the EoTech to be distracting as all hell, but I know several people who like them. |
I have an Aimpoint Comp ML3 with LaRue M68 Cantilever mount on my carbine and I love it. I have shot an AR with an Eotech(not sure which model it was) and it was great as well. I just prefer the Aimpoint for its great durability and extremely long battery life, like someone mentioned previously, but that's just my opinion.

You really have to look at them. I prefer the battery life and warranty on an aimpoint, but the dot just does not look clear to me. It seems I have a mild case of astigmatism or something that gives me trouble with the normal design red dot sights. I don't get that problem with an EoTech or the Leopold CQT. If I had bought an aimpoint sight unseen I would have been really disappointed. |
If you have astigmatism, I would think the EOTech would give you more problems than the Aimpoint. I have astigmatism and when I wear contact lenses, the EOTech gives me no problems. With glasses, the EOTech blurs too badly for me. Of the choices of Aimpoints, I prefer the 2MOA models. Others will argue that the 4MOA is faster for CQB, but have they really put themselves on a timer to see if it is faster? I know that with the 2MOA, I could easily hit pepper poppers at ranges in excess of 225 yards with Georgia Arms Canned Heat 55gr. The Aimpoints don't give me any problems with or without glasses. I really like the CQ/T and even though it has a similar looking reticle to the EOTech, it gives me no problems because it isn't a projected reticle. |
