Nope but I WAS a member of USPSA. I let my membership lapse so I had to have my father gift it to me. I had joined TheBeerSlayer's club a while ago however, my fathers information was on the card so I couldn't claim it as my own in Alabama. This is a field grade. The guy up front said it would be a service grade if it weren't for the wood. There aren't many floating around in that situation so you all need to hurry up and buy one. LARRYG isn't fear mongering when he says you need to hurry up and buy! |

Looks good. Do you have Garand magazines (er I mean clips) As far as refinishing, locally I only know of Tony at M&M Gunsmithing. I'll have to look up his website. Otherwise there is Dean at Dean's Gun Restorations in Tennessee, and if you look on jouster.com they could tell you other places to have it parked. I'd just refinish the wood myself with pure tung oil, and not park it for now. If need pure tung oil Highland Hardware in the Virginia Highlands has it. If you do decide to get it parked, just emember that the gas cylinder, lock, and gas cylinder screw are all stainless and can't be parked, they have to be blackened or painted. Speaking of which, i could stand to add to my LC 30-06 ammo, maybe I'll go to Anniston one day. There's also going to be a Garand match at SRGC on Jan 6. |
That is exactly the same situation as the one I got in July. I gauged like a Service Grade but the wood was awful. What's even better is that the wood cleaned up decently. |
I got the CMP bug years ago. I wound up with 2, 1903's and 5 Garands in my posseion. :) . All I did was clean the wood up with 100% Tung oil and or a few with BLO . I could bring myself to get them reparked. I had to leave the old girls in there present state. Aged like wine I guess. Deans in Tenn is who I would send it to if money wasn't an option. He does the very best of clean up's and rewstoration on these grand ole rifles. Congrads and enjoy this great piece of American history. WarDawg |
