interesting rock climbing on the back of the mountain. got interested in it because of BoB. Decided to do the 3 mile up /3 mile down trail as a day hike. wasnt much of a parking place at the bottom and the trail is just a road. so i drove to the top. got out and explored. kinda neat. lots of climibers on the rocks and so forth was kinda disappointed at the bottom. expected an old camp, barracks or something. there is an area with placks and so forth. in town there is a historical site. but it was closed. they used to (and may still) have t-shirts that were copies of the wwII t-shirts issued (i think). worth a day to visit and explore. toccoa is kind of a neat town too. and not far from the chatooga river area which is interesting too. |

The ACOG on the M14 was uncle sams idea, thereis now a Leupold 3.5x10 Mildot on it. The pic of the suburban was a South African team that got hit by an EFP that was a few yards behind Brad Hummer. It killed the two inthe back seat, severely injured the driver and as you can see the passenger side door handle, the door would not open and the passenger has two femoral artery bleeds going, (puddle of blood on the ground underneath the door) Brad was the first there and got him out of the driver side and applied two tourniquets, stabilized and got medivac. The guy later wrote him from South Africa thanking him for saving his life. What was ironic is that the EFP hit high in the back door, like it was set for the gunner in a hummer turret, but they run different jamming devices to delay the detonation, I guess it delayed it right into the suburban. Brad said the guy was a real MAN, half of his right cheek was gone and once he regained consciousness he never complained but made comments like this shit sucks and so forth. This is an type of stuff happens to our guys everyday. |
I have done things on top of that mountain that...well... ![]() ![]() If you can't get laid on Curahee....you cain't get laid. At least that's the way it was from about 1986-1990. And before BoB came out.....now I would probably have an "old geezer" cheering section. The first time I was there, the fog was even with the rock face. It looked like you could walk out on the cloud. Truly beautiful. |
