I'm looking for a good place to go wild hog/boar hunting around Ft. Stewart.  Any recommendations?

My friend invited me to go hog hunting sometime. But that is nowhere near Fort Stewart. I plan to use the Federal Fusion in .308 180 grain. Is that good enough and if not what should I use?

Absolutly not. I would recommend nothing less than a 600 Nitro. They are HOGS for God's Sake!!!!

Seriously, those suckers are killed with .22's and bows all the time. SHOT PLACEMENT.

Welcome home, btw.

I don't know how far you want to go, but when I go fishin we pass Green Island, which I think is uninhabited and there are always hogs feeding in the marsh grass.  I alway wondered if their meat was saltier because of it. I don't know if hunting is permitted there, but if it is there are lots to be had.

Green Island is next to Skidaway Island.

I had a friend who used to go hunting on the base I think .  Actually, there is a shooting range on the base (on Route 144) and there are pictures on the wall of deer and hogs killed locally. I bet the guys there can answer your questions specifically.

My friend has used his Dragunov(7.62x54) to kill hogs with no problems. But he recently hit a hog three times with a 190 grain 300 Magnum and the hog still ran off. My friend most likely didn't have time to get a good shot on him because he told me he ran into them while going around a bend. His brother shot a hog once with a .30-06 Ballistic Silvertip and it absolutely tore the hog open.
I've wanted to go hog hunting and coyote hunting for a long time at my friend's place. He has several large open fields which would be perfect to sit out one night and prepare for a massacre.
Maybe I'll get to go before the summer is over.

If I'm not mistaking you can hunt them year round on Ft Stewart.  I was checking into a couple weeks ago.  They have problem hog areas mapped out.  I am in Brunswick and all the WMA's are only open for hogs during the normal hunting seasons, not year round like private land.  I've asked around about hunt clubs and it seems like the only one anyone said was taking new members was crazy expensive, but they lease like 7-8000 acres, and there isn't too many members.

Anyway, I'll keep my ears open.

Yes, there are always hogs on green Island, but it is very much illegal to hunt them there IIRC.  I Talked to both U.S. Fish and Game and GADNR at Delegal Marina, right there on Skidaway, and I seem to remeber something about Green Island being considered part of the Skidaway preserve or something.

Thats too bad about Green Island. I bet that meat would be tasty.

I emailed a friend who did some hunting near Ft. Stewart and he gave some specific advice, Here it is:

as for the best hunting around FT Stewart...I suggest 2 things. One, if he doesnt plan to now,
tell him 50$ for a year of Fort Stewart hunting is a great buy. For hogs...go to the dirt road
that runs between A14 and A15/16...in 14 there are 2 orchards and 2 green fields...I suggest he
go there jumping from Field to Field during the last 2 hrs of the day..or first hr of morning...

I have killed over 100 hogs in A14 alone...lots of deer as well...

On Ft Stewart...the green Fields in late afternoon is the key.

he can get a map for 5$ from the game check station.

Also, the game wardens hate hogs...ask them where to go and they will put you on the hogs

on FS you can kill any size and 50 a day.

I personally never killed more than 6 in one day! But multiple shooters could do the job.
