Okay, I've been looking at aimsurplus.com for some .223 ammo and I was wondering if anyone has gotten either the ss109 62gr stuff or the guatamalan stuff? Recomendations? Thanks, A-T |
| I got some Guat stuff from Century. Same as the stuff Aim has. Some looked like the best ammo you've ever seen. Some looked like melted crayons. I stashed the good lookin' ammo and blasted up a couple thousand rounds of the "crayon" ammo. It all worked fine. It is hot ammo. Just don't get freaked if some of it isn't pretty. It should shoot just fine. |

I bought some of the Lake City 62 grain SS109 from MidwayUSA and they look alright and have received good feedback from other MidwayUSA users. I honestly can't say how they shoot because I haven't shot any I ordered yet but I'll let you know. If you hurry, you can get them for 1000 rounds for only 209.99 plus shipping. The sale expires July 25.Here the link: www.midwayusa.com/eproductpage.exe/showproduct?saleitemid=176464 |
| I think PD means Pull Down. Which may mean that it didn't pass QC for some reason and was to be "pulled down" to it's basic componants. The CMP and others have sold pull down componants for years. But if that were the case I don't know how it gets to the market as live rounds. |
Correct. The "PD" stuff coming out of Lake City is considered tier 3 ammo. It left the plant as loaded ammo. Most of it will work fine. There have been reports of problems, including cracked necks and severely setback bullets. I've even heard reports of kabooms, but don't have 100% confirmation on that. I personally wouldn't shoot the PD stuff unless I inspected the rounds first. Just like some of the nastier surplus stuff. Mark |

I got 1000 rounds of Lake City SS109 from Dixie yesterday for $200.00. He has one box left. I also picked up 160 rounds of 7.62 Aussie. Does anyone know the bullet weight on the Aussie? While there, I picked up some 7.62 labeled as follows: Long Range M118 Then stamped was on the box was this: XM118LR PD It seems that I recall reading that the M118 is the sniper ammo. Is that correct? What is the bullet weight? |
