New to SBR thoughts...If I was going to take a RRA lower and wanted to ad a short barreled upper do I have to have information engraved on the lower?? I keep seeing people wanting an engraver. Is this info. on the form 1 when I send it in to ATF??? Will someone fill me in?

I sent mine to ILIKEMOPAR - Tom Sawyer - he adverticises on dees boards - sheeh - that Ray Nagen billboard has me going. Anyway - put your first name, last name, city and state on the receiver. Put the same on the Form 1, using the existing serial number, etc. Check the Armory boards for more information. You can get the PDF form there, it is very simple. Order the fingerprint cards, Form 1's, citizenship forms direct from the ATF in Atlanta. LEO signoff or use the NFA Trust route. That's it plus the $200. |

I got the same response as you about not having to mark the rifle after approval of my Form 1. I found another contradictory thread with a different letter here-www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=14&t=280058 By the same director no less. Seems like his signature stamp floats around to different desks. Typical of the alphabet gang. Please someone post the letter that is found on this link above.....I don't know how. |
I agree, this has always been the case with the ATF. You will always get several different answers to the same question depending on what day it is, who you talk to, and which direction the wind is blowing. Due to things like this, I will not tell whether my lowers are marked or not nor will I give anyone legal advice of this nature. All we can do is provide the best information we can and, hope that anyone harassing us will interpret the law in a positive manner... |

My thoughts are this. I got my approved Form 1's back without filling anything in the box that says"other identifiable marks".I left it blank. ATF approved them the way I submitted them. By engraving other info after the fact kinda seems like altering the registered weapon. I can see it now. ATF agent- "Sir....why are there engravings on your lower that are not listed on your Form 1?" Me-" I was doing as I was instructed in a letter signed by your chief" ATF agent- "Sir,you are going to have to come with me. You were informed incorrectly.....you should not have altered the firearm after it was approved" You are under arrest. I don't interpret it that way. Me-"Please call Mr. Kenneth Houchens and verify the letter." ATF agent-"Who is Mr. Houchens? It 's in the hands of the courts now." Me-"I didn't expect any less from you." I say all the time "Thank God we don't get all the government we pay for!" |
| Again.....its how you read into it. You are probably safer doing it than not doing it. I did not.....yet. The best thing to do which I intend to do as well is write in for a ruling such as the letters posted above. They will respond to you directly. Then you have a letter addressed to the name on the form 1. Do as told in the letter addressed to you and you are safe IMO. |
