Suppose for the sake of discussion I found one recently tucked away in an old box.   Is it illegal in GA to own one?

What would be a good way to dispose of the hypothetical little gizmo?  Chunk it in the trash?  Break it and chunk it in the trash?  Break it and throw it in the neighbors trash?  Shoot, shovel and shut up?

Depends. Is it a collectors item or a piece of chicom stainless crap?

I don't know about the laws that cover them, but i have had a small switch in my tool box for years that has never gotten me in trouble.

Cheap piece of crap, hypothetically of course.

There is no law in Georgia that says you can't own an automatic.  Carrying it in public is the only problem.

go to the blade show this weekend in Atlanta. supposedly the biggest in the world. Sell it there if you don't want it.. or pick up a real nice microtec or other automatic.. switch, otf etc etc...

You can own it, but you aren't supposed to carry it.

When I was about 13 I got caught carrying one. The cop seemed to look at it as more of a novelty than a weapon. That was 10 years ago, though.

essentially they are no different than non-auto knives in the eyes of the law.  The code section just says one cannot carry a concealed knife for offensive or defensive purposes.  Either 1. Get your CCW or 2. let the clip show in your pocket and say its a utility knife.

I own two.  Carry one of'em with me all the time.  I wouldn't worry about it except around schools.  If you go the the Blade show check out Knife Mart.  They are small but they have a large selections of auto's.  My couson runs it.  A very nice guy I might add.

Thanks everybody for the info.  I thought they were illegal to own.  It's just sitting in the back of my handgun safe.  I'm not that into knives.  It actually belongs to my wife.  Not sure where she got it.  I used to buy them in Mexico when I was stationed in San Diego, but I gave away or lost all of them years ago.
