I agree with the other guys on the M4gery. I like the 16" blasters best. Keep in mind you can't use a standard bayonet with a 16" unless it is a mid-length. You may or may not care about that. I'd get an A3/A4 (flat top) upper because it is a more versatile platform for mounting optics. I'd skip the detachable carry handle and get a good BUIS. I prefer a fixed BUIS on my carbines with Aimpoints. For everything else I like a flip-up BUIS. You will not go wrong with a good flip-up. I prefer the Troy flip-up sights, but the ARMS 40 sights are also good. I like the Troy better because the windage adjustment is less likely to be accidentally changed, it is quicker (for me) to deploy than an ARMS 40, it is built like a tank and is very low profile (ARMS does make a 40L - low profile). For handguards, if you aren't going to mount a bunch of crap on the front, just keep the standard handguards. I have free-float systems on all my ARs except for one. Many of the railed systems do allow for better cooling and protect the barrel better than standard handguards, so I use these systems on rifles even if I'm not using a flashlight or vertical grip. But the quality systems are expensive. I would look no further than LaRue or Daniel Defense. I like a standard Front Sight Base best. I'd get a 1:7 or 1:8 barrel if I intended to shoot (or wanted the option of using) heavier bullets. If not, stick with 1:9. Unless I'm using SS, I want a chrome-lined barrel. Optics? Depends what you want to do. Arms-length to 100+ yards I favor the Aimpoint. I must say though I recently got my first EOTech and I am very impressed with it. A variable powered scope is always another good choice. Money no object? Look at the ACOGs. Cool thing about the quality throw-lever mount systems (like LaRue and ARMS) is that you could have two different optics that "share" the rifle. Want something for home defense? Slap the Aimpoint on. Run with the Aimpoint in matches or classes. Got a chance to do some hunting? Pop the Aimpoint off and throw a magnified optic on it (note any power above 3X will allow the optic to see through the fixed FSB; you won't see it in your view). Manufacturers? I like to stick with quality. I use parts by RRA, LMT, Colt, Bushmaster, FN and Armalite/Eagle Arms for my ARs. |
My KAC stuff is perfect too. My DD Burnsed Loop is VERY PURPLE (They said the whole lot was and would send me a replacement when they get the new stuff) I don't own any LaRue, but have heard about the purple. My ARMS stuff is perfect as well, except for one of my M68 Saddles got stripped out. They are sending a replacement. Did I tell you I got a Tacpoint too? |
Look closely at the picture of my M4. My KAC RAS is very purple. I've named my rifle Barney because of it. I recently purchased another PRI gasbuster and it is disgustingly purple. I know everybody is slammed with business, but it seems like the new guys are always kick ass when they first hit the scene, but eventually their QC goes down the shitter. |
I have a bunch of KAC stuff, I have yet to get a purple part. (fingers crossed) |
You don't have a black RAS you'd like to part with do ya? Seriously, I'd like to buy a few more things from them, but I'm a little hesistant. |
Thanks for the ideas.....I think a basic M4gery is on the radar screen.................... Now to put it all together...................................... muuuuuhahahahahahahahahah! ![]() ![]() ![]() The evil lives!!! |
Does that handguard get hot? I've seen them before and wondered if it turned into a BBQ Grill for your fingers. |
|
The solid aluminum tube on my RRA Varminter gets hot as hell just sitting in the sun. Then dump a mag or two through it and your fingers WILL get burned. No more solid float tubes for me. The one on my Varminter is okay, simply because that blaster doesn't get a lot of ammo dumped through it. That gun is also so incredibly accurate, that I'm scarred to change anything on it. If I had it all to do over again, I'd get the heavy barrel cut to 18", flutted and threaded. The FF tube would get swapped out for something like a LaRue or DD. The stock would get changed to something adjustable. I think that would make this rifle perfect. But like I said, I'm just affraid to change anything on it and there are several other projects higher on the list. |
Details man, details? ARH |
Nah, get a Garand, then an 03A3, then MAYBE an M1A (after you get an AR10).
|
Damned if that don't look like a flash suppressor. |
