This was just brought to my attention by my sister. One of her ex b/f's from a while back had given her a pistol for protection. She doesn't know where he got it from and is scared about it so she gave it to me. She had told me that she didn't want me to keep it either because he was kind of a shady character. My question is, is there a way i can check on the serial number to see if this pistol is stolen or is legal? Or do i need to contact a local leo to check it out for me? I don't want to get caught with a stolen weapon, but if it's legal, i'll keep it for her. Any info or suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Contact a local LEO and tell them the same story.  If it's a jennings or a lorcin, just break it down and throw it in the trash.

It's neither of them, it's a Taurus. I'll call a friend, well email him, not sure what his number is anymore. Thanks for the advice.

Well, found out earlier that maybe the shady one did right and actually bought something for a change. It isn't "reported" stolen so they said it's good to go.
