Georgia Legislator has a new bill which attacks our property rights.  You can read the bill here.

www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/fulltext/sb5.htm

This bill is started by Eric Johnson a Republican from Savannah.  Senator Johnson is the President Pro Tem of the Senate.  He has a great influence. We must stop this.

I really don't to read through the entire bill.  Can you give a quick review of what it's trying to do, and why you oppose it??  Thanks

This is NOT good.

It essentially makes it almost impossible to fight eminent domain when somebody wants your land for a commercial or residential development. It puts tax revenue ahead of your rights.

Here's what I wrote to my representatives:

Gentlemen,

I urge you both to not support Senate Bill 5 (http://www.legis.state.ga.us/legis/2005_06/sum/sb5.htm).  As a Republican who has voted for both of you, I am having a really hard time understanding how a gentleman from Savannah who calls himself a Republican could dream up such a ridiculous bill.  I also saw Dan Moody's name on the bill.  I knew him when I was in the North Fulton Young Republicans group and can understand why his name is on the bill.  That guy always seemed shady to me and like he was capable of doing anything that might benefit himself and not the residents of his district he was elected to represent.  I guess the rich in Alpharetta need to get richer (I used to live there, so I'm not bitter).  I moved back to Carroll County so I could be represented by those who expressed my same views and would look out for the best interests of the people who elected them.  Gentlemen, I have the utmost in confidence that you both will do the right thing if and when this bill comes to a vote.  Please vote with a resounding "NO!"

I look forward to receiving a response to your view in regards to this bill.  Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,

BigDawg308

I got one reply so far from the emails I sent out yesterday.

Dear --------,
Thank you for contacting my office.  As a constituent your input is
very important to me.  While I have always supported public and private
partnerships SB 5 has consequences far beyond its face.  At its heart
this is a bill that helps partnerships for the greater good, but unless
this legislation changes substantially I will not be able to support
it.
Again let me thank you for your correspondence.

Good.  I am glad others are writing their reps.  If you haven't done so then please do.
