I applied for mine on November 15, haven't got it yet. How long does Ga. normally take? When we were getting our FFL at my pawnshop, the nice lady from the BATF informed us that since the FFL was in the corporate name, we would have to do a background check on ourselves if we were to purchase a weapon or take one home coming off pawn. WTF? We went through the FBI and GBI background checks, got the FFL, and I still had to go through it all again! .GOV for you...

| I'd blow my cover if I told you my county. It's a really small county where everybody knows everybody else. I suspect that the probate judge offers this "speedy service" to folks known personally. If something did turn up on the background check, the permit would be rescinded. |

Update: Spoke with the local Probate Judge @ lunch today, asking her about the "instant" permits. She told me that those days were long-gone. Said to expect around 10 weeks or so. I think the process is computerized now, which wasn't the case when my daughter and I got our permits several years back. Renewal is still fast, of course, as no background check is required, but there aren't any more "quickies" down heah on Tobaccy Road anymore. My youngest son turns 21 May 31, so I was inquiring of the Probate Judge about how long he'd have to wait. I told him today that I'd repossess that ol' G21 he's been carrying in his glovebox and let him choose either my G30 or G26 for CCW. |
