I got a Kimber Custom II from GAcop yesterday for an incredible price. Took it to the range today and ran 323 rounds through it without any problems. Eight of those rounds were Winchester SXTs, the rest were all Winchester white box. I'm a happy camper. Thanks, GAcop, for the awesome deal on this fine shootin' pistola. |

I sold the AR I had for sale on the EE yesterday. All I have to do now is sell the upper I have and I will be back down to see you. It was good to meet you. Bookhound and ARH - Thanks for meeting me for breakfast. I really had a good time. |
| You got the ones with the external extractor, right? I'm not a big fan of external extractors, but from the reports of all those that have them and no problems, I figure my experience based on the Pro Carry II I had may be skewed. I guess 5" 1911s are the most reliable, after all. |
You shot 323 rounds in one session, in the same gun? Wow! |
|
I would have shot more, but was pressed for time. Heck, I was only at the range a couple of hours. The pistol proved itself very accurate, just like my other Custom II. This one has the external extractor though, so I really wanted to put closer to 400 rounds through it on its first outing. I guess 323 will have to be close enough. After 220 rounds I pulled a bore-snake through the bore twice with just a few drops of CLP. I cleaned nothing else on the pistol. Mags used were Wilson 47Ds and a few Wilson 10-rounders. The second to the last mag I shot was an 8-round mag of the hollow points just to see what they'd do in the dirty (very dirty at the time) new pistol. Everything went fine. How many rounds do you normally shoot in a pistol session? Just curious. Also, what kind of drills do you do? |
|
Depends on how many i have with me. Normally between 50 and 100 rounds. I could go through more if i had fun things to shoot at. The paper gets boring to me after a short time. The only "drills" i guess i do is practicing quick draws from both a concealed and open carried holster while trying to aquire the target as fast as i can. I would like to take some kind of conceal carry class sometime. |
Contact mikebenedict and talk to him about taking a half-day class. Mike and Claude (aka The Head Hunter) will take you under their wing for a small (and I do mean so small it's hardly worth mentioning; basically covers target cost, their gas moeny and enough to buy lunch) amount of money. When I broke in the new Kimber I was doing quick-draw type drills with single, double and triple hits. The double & triple shot drills focused on transitions from chest to head shots. I also was working on fast mag changes. It's amazing how much ammo you can shoot in a short time when practicing like this. |
