Funny you mentioned them.  Sometime ago when I went on business to Germany I spent a long time browsing stores and asking around for one.  The Germans said the cucoos became an "american souvenir".  That is, they were almost selling them all to Americans only,   They also mentioned that when the Americans shut doen the military base at Augsburg the cuckoo business almost disapeared.  Anyway... after some help from local frineds I finally got one.  :-)

By the way... most of the ones I saw in Helen are not the real thing.  They use electronic clockwork and lots of plastic.
