Researching building an off-grid cabin back home. I would imagine with all the expansion out near Weddington that the code situation is ridiculous.

How likely am I to run into problems with code nazis if I wanted to build a cabin (either log or stick built, haven't decided)? I'd like to do it as simply, cheaply, and with the least interference as possible. I wouldn't mind running electricity and adding a septic system, but not if the costs/fees/permits/inspections are going to be ridiculous.

Thanks in advance.

If you plan on hooking your cabin up to the power grid in NC you will have to get a permit and inspections. Also do you need a well drilled you now have to ask for permission to drill a well and the health inspectors  will tell you where you can and can't drill.

There's a well on the property already, although it's maybe 200 yards or so away from where I'd like to put the cabin.

I'm still trying to figure out all the details...

Weddington area................forget about a cabin. Locals (transplants) will make sure that you can't do anything that you would like to do with your own property.. Weddington/Wesley Chapel is ridiculous crazy bout people being in your business. And Union county has a code for everything.

I'm sorry this won't be in weddington. It will be in another part of the county. I just know how badly that side of the county has exploded in the 15 years since I left, and didn't know if the development had brought with it the code nazi mindset.
