can any of you SC guys with a supressor tell me how to go about the process and cost? Is it an annual fee or one shot deal? Also best one to get?

Thanks for any help

Check your IM's.

What caliber?

The $200 tax stamp is a one time cost.

You basically fill out the ATF form once you pick out the suppressor, get finger printed, get the local LEO sign off, send all that into the ATF with the check for $200 and wait.

The dealer I have dealt with in the past did the paperwork for me, I went to the county detention center and got finger print cards done and got the Sheriff to sign the ATF form and mailed it in.

Someone else will have to chime in about what is needed to go the trust route.

I don't have one for 223 so I can't make a recommendation there.

Tag and bump because I came to the HTF to ask the exact same question, along with:

Anyone in Beaufort County have a problem with Tanner signing off on one?

from what I have learned so far, it is better to go the trust route, no finger prints no LEO sign off and anyone associated with the trust can have the supressor in their posession.

Quicken will maker and the app for the feds is all you need and ofcoarse the $200

personally, for a .223 ar, i'd go with something like an aac 7.62sd, sure it's .30 but you're gtg with .223/300 blk/.308 ... a bit longer, louder and heavier then a dedicated .223 can, but what's a db and an Oz or 2 when you're using supersonic ammo and have a loud action noise anyhow?

I own 4 suppressors (Ops Inc 12th .308 / YHM Mite 22rf / Trident 9 / /AAC M42K in 223)

The only one I'd prolly NOT buy again is the AAC. Great can, arguably the best can $$ can buy for 223. Its just that 223 suppresses horribly. Nowhere near hearing safe, the high velocity of the 223 makes for the worst sonic crack.

Honestly, the best place to start is with 22 rf, and subsonic ammo (fairly common for 22rf) Would allow both a suprpessed pistol and AR in 22rf, as well as 22 bolt guns etc

Second choice would be 9mm. More expensive for subsonic, but still can be made "Hollywood quiet."

Assaid, a 308 can that can be used on a 223 or so8 is a good way to go.

buy a 300BLK upper and a 762SD.  If you want "movie quiet" that's the route to go for a black rifle.
