Hey guys, does anyone know where a Gunsmith that works on Ar15's is around the Union/Anson/Richmond counties?  I only know of 2 and they both told me they wouldn't touch an Ar15.

Need help!
Thanks

John at Shooters in Fayette'nam does some AR work, that is the only shop I have personal experience with. I'm sure there are some guys in Rockingham that work on ARs but I don't know of none. What are you looking to get done? I'm pretty close to The Rock.

Sorry guys, this was one of my first post on the forum.  Didn't know I had to subscribe to get updates on it.  Thought no one ever answered it.

I need an f' marked front sight base put on my 20" del-ton upper.  I got a low profile YHM on there and I just really wished I got a regular front sight base.

I can supply all the parts etc I just don't trust myself to do the taper pins drilling etc.

I stopped in a couple places in rockingham and asked and got two different people's names and numbers.  one was dead and the other moved... I'm not having much luck here.

Anyone ever done this before? and how can you keep it strait while drilling them etc?  I really don't want some canted sights :)

Edit, sorry it won't let me subscribe to it for some reason :) guess I gotta keep up to date on it :)

Glad you got back to us.  As you have seen, there are a lot of folks here that are more than willing to help a brother out.

DO NOT get a drill anywhere near the taper pins on the FSB.

Welcome to arfcom, n00b.

I have the taper bit to do that with and a drill press to make sure it's done right.

Here's a pic of my VTLOR low profile gas block with set screws into dimples on the barrel and the tapered pin I ran through it.

very nice, mint hill I think I can just head up 218 to mint hill.  How much would you charge to do the taper pins? and how exactly do you keep the sight block strait while drilling to keep from getting block cant?

thanks!!

You need one of these jigs

http://www.bravocompanyusa.com/BRDE-Fixture-for-Drilling-Pinning-Front-Sight-Base-p/brdejig3.htm

Which I don't have.  I do have the jig for pinning a VTLOR low profile gas block along with the drill bits, taper bits, and taper pins.  Same 2/0 taper pins that are used for a fsp.

oh okay so you just don't have the proper jig for the front sight base then... so it's a no go :(

I'm trying to see if Del-Ton will do it for me.  I got to call the supervisor or some such on there and see if they will take it back and do the front sight base if I buy everything from them.

Z09SS has a thread in the Retro section about doing his himself. He eyeballed it. I'm sure he'll be happy to answer any questions you have about doing it on a drill press.

Yeah Laura helped me out :) since I got the rifle from them and also buying the parts from them, they are doing it for the price of parts plus shipping the upper back and forth.

Where you located?
