Hey,

I posted this in GD, but completely forgot about the hometown forums, hopefully you all can help me out.  My buddy in getting married in a few weeks and I am planning the bachelor party. We are going to be doing the bachelor party in Charleston, SC (hes getting married on Hilton Head). I've never been to Charleston, but I need to find a hotel to book a few rooms that's relatively close to the nightlife and decently priced. Another plus would be close to the airport, but that's not a big deal.

So is there a nice area of Charleston that contains nice bars and restaurants? (any recommendations?) That also has some decent hotels close?

Thanks for the help.

There are several on International Blvd just outside the Airport. The Holiday Inn Express is fairly new.

If you are staying near the Airport there are a few bars and places to eat at the Outlet Center.  Most of the good bars will be downtown. It is only a 5 to 10 minute drive.

Is there a specific name for the area downtown where everything is located?

Meeting St,  between Calhoun St. and Broad area is a good place to start.  There are several hotels, bars, and places to eat but the rates will be high.  There should be several bars full of College of Charleston coeds.  Females out number male at COC, so happy hunting.

The tourists areas are safe but some of the surrounding areas can be rough.  Just keep some situational awareness.

The area between downtown and the airport is rough, particularly Sprull Ave near the Charleston Navy Shipyard.  BTW that;s were you will find the gentlemen's clubs.  If you are travel from the airport to downtown just stay on I-26 until you get downtown. If you have a GPS, set it for Southend Brewery and head downtown.

I am married with kids so I have no current intel on the gentlemen's clubs or the most popular bars.

Marriott Courtyard Riverfront, Great hotel!  Holiday Inn Downtown OK.  If you want to spend some bennies, Marriott Downtown is really nice.  Both Courtyard and Holiday are a very short drive to the battery area where all the night activity is.
