Yesterday in Durham County Superior Court, Kevin Johnson was sentenced to 30 years for shooting Durham Police Officer D. Vereen. "KJ's" friends made continous threats to members of Durham Police and members of the Durham County Sheriff's Office. This is a momentous decision for a variety of reasons. Last year Durham Police officer Youmans was shot through a door by a subject weilding an AK style rifle...Officer Youmans was severly wounded but has made a near full recovery. The subject was sentenced to six months active time and two years probation. I hope that makes you mad....six months and two years probation.....that officer almost died. This year a Durham County Deputy was shot while participating in a narcotics buy/bust....he has fully recovered.
I just want everyone in this area to be aware of what is going on in the streets...not just in Durham, but across this state that you don't hear about. As citizens I want all of you to raise your awareness while out in public......evil dwells just below the .surface.....please protect your homes and families! I have been a member here for a long time.......heck, I was one of, if not the first moderator of the Carolinas hometown forum here. I work in law enforcement in Durham....it doesn't matter which agency, and it concerns me that most people don't evengive personal safety a second thought. I've handled tons of calls where the victim never thought it could happen to them...... Please take the time to evaluate your activities during the course of the day....are you staying vigilant at all times? Are you leaving yourself open to becoming a victim? Please don't let our first face to face meeting occur when I respond to your home or business for a call for help or to investigate a crime. Stay aware and stay safe! |
