Carrying concealed in places that fee admission? Does that include mvie theatres and such?
Carrying in financial institutions? Can you open carry in financial institutions? Are there any updates and or ammendments to current laws that are in work currently? Why is this state so quirky, and are the rumors true about people calling the police on open carry individuals throughout the state. What are the safe zones where the gun grabbers aren't out to get me. I just moved to Jacksonville from Northen Virginia and i'm still trying to get used to the gun law differences and i here a lot of different rumors and hearsay. Also some of these laws seem to have grey areas what is the general concesus from the NC hive. |

Welcome and enjoy. Financial institutions are off limits to concealed carry but open carry is allowed if the premise isn't posted as no firearms. Yes, there are several bills in process for carry laws such as carry in places that serve alcohol, during states of emergency, etc but they all are getting tied up in committees by the anti crowds. This state is no different that any other state when it comes to people getting scared and calling the police when they see a gun. Most if not all of these questions should be covered in your class for NC CHP so don't put off getting it if you haven't already. |

Thanks for the info i have a texas and virgina chl so i have put NC's on the back burner i am really interested in how the laws are interpreted here by citizens and law enforcement. The admission thing kills me. Can you open carry in places that charge admssion. does anyone have any personal open carry experiences with the local populace either positive or negative. |

Even if you have a Non resident TX and non resident VA you should still consider at least taking the CHP class if you are now a NC resident. The class will cover the NC specific laws far better than what you will get from an internet forum. It's a cheap price to pay for the correct info from a certified source. You don't have to pursue your permit with the state right away, you can wait for a while after you take the class but the class is a wealth of knowledge. |

I m a TX resident and my plate is too full eventually to take the NC class right now probaly looking at Decmber till i can take it. ive been browsing ncdoj i just wanted the good North Carolinian opinion on the laws. I live in Jacksonville and i haven't run into any trouble with OC when i have done it. Northern VA had its places that you just were better off not OCing iin as well. i guess in Asheville i'll keep it in my pants . Thanks for the info and i love Eastern North Carolina so far by the way, i just want to invent a portable dehumidifer or something |

NOT TO TOOT MY OWN HORN BUT I AM IN THE BIG METROPOLIS OF MONCURE NC AT RAY'S SUPERMARKET WHERE WE NOT ONLY ALLOW OPEN CARRY AS WELL AS CONCEALED BUT WE ENCOURAGE IT WITH SIGNS POSTED AT THE ENTRANCES AND IN MEAT MARKET! I ACCEPT FIREARMS FROM NON FFL'S AND CHARGE $30 PER TRANSFER. I REQUIRE A COPY OF THE SENDERS DRIVER LICENSE AND A BILL OF SALE WITH ALL GUN INFO ON IT SHOWING THE BALANCE DUE AS $0 SO THAT I CAN WRITE IT UP AS A PRIVATE PARTY TRANSFER AND HOPEFULLY NOT GET HIT BY THE NC REVENUERS FOR NOT CHARGING ANY SALES OR USE TAX. LEGALLY ANYTHING YOU BUY FROM OUT OF STATE SHOULD BE REPORTED AND A USE TAX SENT IN BUT NOBODY DOES IT. I KEEP SOME AMMO IN STOCK AND A FEW FIREARMS BUT DON'T KEEP THE GUNS OUT SO AS TO KEEP FROM GETTING BROKEN IN. WE SELL EVERYTHING AND THE STORE HAS BEEN HERE SINCE THE FIFTIES!! 919 542-2183...
FALREBEL KEVIN STONE PS I REALLY ADVISE YOU DO LIKE THE OTHER MAN SAID AND TAKE THE CCW CLASS. VERY USEFUL INFO...I HAVE A FRIEND THAT TEACHES IT FOR $60 ON SUNDAY AM IN VERY FEW HOURS... |

Sunday AM and no PM? That just great to hear...so he sends people out (and probably illegally under the law of what he is supposed to teach and the time period required) without the 10 hours+ of information that if they are smart, will get them to take some formal training. Why? Because if you haven't taken any combat carry classes with weapons, good luck figuring out a game plan when the SHTF as the guy looking at you already has one and has used it successfully before |

I took the class from Homer in the early 90's at Deep River Sporting Clays and he didn't cut any corners or leave anything out .As FALREBEL said it was very informative and eye opening to NC gun laws. I really enjoyed the class and it was cheap. If you feel you have to pay more and spend two-three days doing it to get the information then allow yourself to get ripped off at some place like Gunsplus or Jim's in Fayetteville. Just rmember there is no pre-course training required and there is no reqiurement that the instructor has to train you to shoot ,that is your reponsibility. Dont get me wrong,it is wise to know your weapon and have some knowledge of gun fighting skills. But then again these CCW laws you speak of dont affect me. |

And that brings up a good point.
This is a class required by the State to get a CHP. It is not a shooting school It is not a gunfighting school. The class content was a political compromise to get the CHP bill approved. The class should be the MINIMUM that it can be. It should be as easy as possible so that the 90 pound 85 year old grandmother can pass it and be granted the right by the state to carry a handgun to protect herself. Does a shooter need to know more? Yes, and there are a ton of classes and instructors out there for that. But the CHP is the State granting you the right to carry a gun. A Right that is not theirs to grant in the first place. The Constitution said that a long time ago. So it is not a beginners class, it is what is required by law to get permission from the state to get a CHP. Nothing more nor should it be. NOI |
