Im the Asst Chief at a Vol fire dept in Moncks Corner and all the Vol dept's are running like crazy. Cars all over the ditches on 52, 176, State Rd, everywhere. People need to stay home |
| Can't believe I'm missing it. I've lived in beaufort county for the last 4 years wanting to see some snow. I am in Boone nc mow, where it is snowing and has close to 2 feet of snow from previous events. Not a big deal here, but I always wanted to see what kind of chaos would occur with a decent snow in the lowcountry. |

People need to stay home We transplanted here from upstate NY last year and learned last week that people around here are not used to driving on this stuff. Stay home unless you really need to go out (work and beer runs are allowed). The most common thing you will see is 4x4trucks and SUVs stuck in ditches. People think they are invincible and get over confident. No matter what you are driving: Go slow, do not make sudden directional changes or slam on the brakes, allow lots of extra room between other cars, you will need a lot more distance to slow down and come to complete stops. Anti-lock brakes will not do you a lot of good on this stuff if you are going too fast. Your tires are not meant for snow traction so they will not grip on acceleration, cornering or braking. Know the differences in your front wheel/rear wheel drive vehicles and how each will react and what you need to do in situations when you begin to lose control. Again: stay home if you can, if you have to go out BE CAREFUL. |

Impressive for you guys down east. We only got about 3 inches of global warming here in north Raleigh. http://i527.photobucket.com/albums/cc353/amorton12/Mobile/SatFeb13084559AmericaNew_York2010.jpg Man that looks like a nice place to invite all your friends over for a barbeque. |
| Here in the midlands of SC we got 4" on the ground last evening and a total of 8 inches overnight. During the evening the snow went back and forth between a moderate shower of BIG fluffy flakes and intense shower of smaller flakes. This morning is clear and sunny and the snow is melting fast as the temp comes above freezing. Our lab went nuts in it for while last night, when let out to "potty", but grew tired of it pretty quick. She's a smart dog and knows where the food and warmth are. |

(Thats what dispatch and FD call it. Its still 176 though) |
