| I am headed for the state fair in a couple of weeks with my family. My boys show cows and we are headed down for a long weekend from TN. I have my permit in TN and was wanting to bring my gun with me. Could somebody be so kind as to point me towards a link where I can get the SC laws for concealed carry. I would like to read and make sure I am not breaking any laws and also print off a copy to carry with me just in case. Anybody know what the fair rules would be? Thanks for any help. |

What does a thread on NC gun laws have to do with someone going to the SOUTH CAROLINA state fair? Anyway...you are very likely going to not be able to carry at the state fair. Here's why: The fairgrounds itself is private property and it is the policy of the SC State Fair that weapons are not allowed. Although the fairgrounds itself...to the best of my knowledge...is posted with signs that are not legally binding (remember, SC has specific laws about signs ) There will be a phalanx of law enforcement officers with metal detectors acting as legal representatives for the fairground's owners. Even thought there may be no legally-binding signs, the cops can legally make you disarm in order to gain entrance. Otherwise, you are not getting in with a CCW...not even as a vendor or participant. If caught, at best you'll be denied entrance or tossed out depending on which side of the fence you are on. At worst, you could be arrested for trespassing after notice. The fairgrounds website is down right now but I am almost positive that the weapons policy is posted there. |

We park right next to the barns and don't really leave the barn area. I am more concerned with the area around the fair. Not sure but most fair grounds are not in the best part of towns usually. |

The information below is copied and pasted from the SC State Fair web site
http://scstatefair. org/state- fair/general- rules.php *General Entrance Policy:* 1. The South Carolina State Fair reserves the right to search all packages, bags, strollers, clothing, cups, pocketbooks, briefcases, your person and any other objects deemed to be a carrier of any destruction or lethal device. 2. Concealed weapons are not allowed, even by permit holders. 3. Persons wearing clothing or jewelry which the Fair deems as offensive or gang related will not be allowed onto the Fairgrounds. 4. This property is under the jurisdiction of the Richland County Sheriff's Department and the Columbia Police Department. *Security* - All containers, packages and persons are subject to search upon arrival at the fairgrounds. The following items are not permitted on the fairgrounds: - *alcoholic beverages; * - *concealable weapons; * - *pets, other than those approved by the American Disabilities Act (ADA) *, except when confined and leashed within the campgrounds or unless they are part of an authorized act or exhibit; - *tents of any description* unless they are part of an authorized act or exhibit Last year we discovered that 'concealable weapons' includes a Leatherman in its holster on a belt. |
| You have got to be kidding? A Leatherman is considered illegal? Too funny. Talked to a buddy of mine who went last year. We drive in to the barns and they don't search the trucks coming in this way. I will just keep mine locked up in the vehicle while I am there. I guess technically illegal but don't think anybody is going to be searching. Oh yeah, I will be carrying a Leatherman also. Everybody in the barns has one. |
