Hey Steve,
I live in Rock Hill. I shoot at a outdoor range west of Chester S.C. called "WOODS FERRY OUTDOOR RECREATIONAL PARK". It's only 100yrds but maintained pretty well. It's owned by the state and there is no charge. Just first come, first serve on the tables. Since deer season is over, it's not busy at all. I'm heading over this Sat. afternoon. Feel free to follow me over. it's about 25 minutes south of Mcconells S.C.(between Rock Hill and Chester).Shoot me an e-mail

Hey BASE-RIGGER
Is this range open on Sundays?

YES, IT'S OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK. IT SEEMS LIKE THE SIGN SAYS DAYLIGHT TILL DARK BUT I MIGHT BE OFF ON THAT ONE. THE SIGN DOES SAY PAPER TARGETS ONLY. YOU NEED TO BRING SOME CLOSE PINS TO HOLD YOUR TARGETS WITH. THEY HAVE A 30yrd AND 100yrd BURM. EVEN THOUGH I'VE BEEN THERE AT ALL DIFFERENT TIMES AND DAYS, I'VE NEVER SEEN THE STATE RANGER GUY THAT CLEANS UP THE MESSES LEFT BY THE SLOBS, BUT IT ALWAYS STAYS PRETTY NEAT.SERVICE ROAD IS LOCATED ON HWY 9 BETWEEN CHESTER AND LOCKHART. ANY LOCAL AROUND THERE COULD PROBABLY GIVE YOU DIRECTIONS.

I usually go to the Uhwarrie Natl Forrest. It's about a 1 1/2 hr ride from Gastonia. So for you it'd be a little longer. We're there most of the day when we go so it's worth the ride.

If you're interested I'll see if I can find the directions. I know how to get there, just can't remember the road names.

BTW there's about a 100yd line and about 40 yd line.  First come first serve. Free. Open 7 days 1/2 hr before sunrise to 1/2 hr after sunset. You can shoot at just about anything you want to(within reason).  The only problem with that is the idiots that leave their shit there. We usually spend the first hour cleaning.

Let me know if ya want directions.  Maybe we can meet-up there.

Thanks for the info Guys.

If you (or anyone else) know of any other outdoor ranges within an hour of charlotte (with Sunday hours) please let me know.
I work in automotive sales and can only go out and play on Sundays.

Thanks!

Damn it!! I went to the range Sunday and wrote down the directions. But I lost them. I think I threw them out when I cleaned out the truck.

I know, I know, I'm a dumbass.

Here's the directions, without the short-cuts or mileage.
From the Charlotte area, take 49 North to Davidson County.  Turn right on 109. Take 109  'til you come to a little "town" Eldorado.
When you get in Eldorado there will be a gas station/covienience store on the right.  It sits back off the road some.
The Uwharrie entrance is just passed that.
Take the gravel road about a 1 1/2 miles.
Don't turn off the "main" road.
The range is on your left.

Hope these are clear enough for y'all. Next time I go out there I'll right down the directions, with mileage and short-cuts, AGAIN and I won't lose them this time.

Caveman,
About the range, what type of target holders do they have or do you need to bring your own. Any other points that a first timer at that range should know? Thanks in advance!

Barry13,
Ya gotta bring your own. Sometimes somebody will leave their homemade "stands" so other people can use them 'til they get shot up.If ya bring a stand that you want to stick in the ground, don't forget a hammer. The ground is HARD.
You can shoot at more than just paper if ya want. We killed 2 liter bottles of water and a TV last time. Just make sure ya clean up what shoot at.
We usually spend the first half hour just cleaning up shit. If you're so inclined, bring some trash bags and some gloves. I know the "regulars" would appreciate it.There's a dumpster out there, so ya don't have to haul it away.

It's been raining alot so it probably muddy as hell. Wear some good boots.

If ya want I can e-mail you a video of the range, so ya have an idea of what it's like out there. A guy I go with got a digital camera and recorded a bunch videos of us(Like a kid with a new toy)

Caveman,
Thanks for info!!! Yeah, I know it will be muddy as I live in Shelby, just west of Charlotte. Sounds like you have some good times at the range. Maybe I'll run into you out there sometime. Thanks again!
