| I got 3 handgun purchase permits from the Charlotte Sheriff's department a few months ago. Now I want another couple - do I just go along to the office and ask and hand over the $10 or do I need to fill in the background application form again? |

If memory serves me, you have to fill out that paperwork again. You only give them $5 to start, and then can give them another $5 each for up to 3 total on teh day you pick them up. This is how it was for me in 2006-7 (Sheriff Pendegraph) before I got my CCW...don't think things have changed. |

For what I have seen in Davidson Co,
You can get up to 5 purchase permits in one year. Each permit is good for a one time buy, for a unlimited number of guns from your seller. Out of state CWP, need a PP to purchase a gun with a barrel less than 6 ". Expect around a 2 week turn around time for the pp. PP is at your local sheriff office, where you went before. KC |

state law says that you have to have a permit for all pistols... that would include those with barrels longer than 6"... also i am pretty sure that you can only use one permit for one pistol... This is absolutely correct. I don't know who told you about multiple purchases and 6" barrels and out of state CWP's, but I wouldn't take any more firearm-related legal advice from them. |

Went down at 1pm today with the online form filled out, in and out in under 5 mins. Unfortunately the permit will take 3 weeks, so will miss buying opportunities at the next Dixie gun show in Charlotte. Nice folks in there though. Maybe just in time for the Greensboro show though. |

I stand corrected and sorry to have passed on BAD information that was given to me... in paperwork I read, talking to people at the desk when I asked about a pp, and when the one of the largest sellers at the Raleigh gun show confirmed what I wrote... anyway with a FL CWP I was sold 1 AR15/ammo and could not get a compact glock; I have carried a G21 concealed since 1993. The Dealer/Owner at the Raleigh gun show stated <6"> on the handgun for out of state CWP. He also stated I could buy any number long guns or machine guns but, not a gun with a barrel less than 6" without a PP! All 3 sources said more than 1 gun, per permit, using the SAME sellers' invoice . Since the seller had all the NC local knowledge and permits to sell, shame on me... I thought someone knew his s___ ! After a 6 months duration, I have switched and carry my NC CWP. I spend little time in NC... LOL, most of my time is in China, 3 hours N of VN, practicing tai ji daily. Where I have no feeling or need to be armed like in the USA! In the past, stateside or overseas I have been in 'hot spots needing and using the arms of defense' Again sorry ... I'll review the state laws on the pp. Thanks for the correction |

That's dangerous business they're doing, so I'm glad they didn't sell you any handguns. the law here requires a NC-issued purchase permit or NC-issued CWP to buy any single handgun, regardless of length. A single purchase permit is good forone pistol in the state of NC, not multiple on one invoice. If the AG and/or ATF found out what that seller is doing they would have a field day. Stay far, far away from those folks, and tell your friends to do the same. Both of those "rules" are completely baseless and fabricated, so I don't know how they've managed to not get caught. |
