First grandson is approaching a month old.

Will probably hit Charleston to see the Hunley and Ft's Sumter and Moultrie,  Any suggestions on a decent seafood place.  Ate out at one of the Shem Creek places and it was pretty good but I expect there may be a better place on the Creek or neaby.

Same for Beaufort/Parris Island area.

He's stationed at Shaw AFB and we have come to the conclusion that there is no there there.  Some BBQ places and a few good Friday Saturday places.

We may also go up by Spartanburg/Greenville, Aiken.

Any suggestions for places to go and see  in the mountains?  We hit Congaree and Francis Beidler swamps last time.  Columbia, Beaufort, Charleston and Savannah in the past.

If you want a place other than those on Shem Creek try Queen Anne's Revenge on Daniel Island. It's a bit more upscale than most on Shem Creek.
If you simple good 'ole local type stuff try Hyman's Seafood on King Street in downtown Charleston. Tee shirts and flip flops are the dress code here.
Google them for info on menus and such.

Chattooga River is nice.  It's in Oconee County, SC about 1.5 hours west of Greenville.

Then up the road in NC are the touristy towns of Cashiers and Highlands if those type things are of interest to you.

Did you go to RB's on Shem creek? It's probably the best.
Downtown Charleston I like SNOBs(slightly North of Broad). Particularly the Ribeye. I know not seafood but I've never had a better ribeye. Seafood is best when the yellowfin tuna start running off the coast in late April.

For breakfast go to the Hominy Grill

I second the Chatoogga. There are a number of good hikes.

You can also cross into NC and the Dupont National forest. It's a 3 mile hike with some beautiful waterfalls.

If you hang in the GVL area downtown has some very nice restraunts depending on what you're looking for.

Isn't Aiken where all the "Travelers" houses are and the HQ of National Wild Turkey federation?

The travelers live in North Augusta. The NWTF is in Edgefield, right up the street from Aiken. If any one has never been to the NWTF it is by far the coolest place I have ever been. They have all kinds of displays, interactive areas for the kids and a sweet gift shop. We have hunting land in Edgefield and I stop in there like every day when I go turkey hunting. Well worth the trip. Best part is.......its FREE!!!!

Aiken is a great town for sure, but it's kinda like visiting Florence when compared to the upstate or Charleston. Hell, I didn't even mention Columbia (where I live) as there really isn't anything here to compare to the other places mentioned. Now if the Savanah river plant had tours.....

Yeah I'd like to visit SRS too. I am still curious as to what all goes on out there.

Maybe if someone could arrange a tour of Ellet Brothers and then FN on the way to upstate that would be a cool trip.

I got a tour of FN last year. It was freaking awesome.

                Eastbay Crab Shack

James Island -
                Mimi's Cafe
                Mustard Seed

i dont know if ellet bros would be worth it, at least not the facility here in chapin. i mean, a place that stores guns for retailers all up and down the east coast, you would think they'd have a little bit more security around. the place looks like a typical warehouse with a fence around it and makes me wonder if they have ANY guns in there.

Not nearly as cool as FN. But last time I was there they had plenty of firearms.

Thanks all.

Schedule is up in the air.  Arrived last night, 80+ degrees in SoCal, possible snow flurries tonight.

Some of the seafood places are on the tentative itinerary.

It'll just rain in the Columbia / Sumter area. They make a big deal over any possibility of snow. You probably won't find a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread at the stores tonight...

The Beacon is just about the only good thing in Sparklecity.
