I used to be a member and we ran some classes there a while back. In-laws have 50+ acres and let me shoot there so I let the membership lapse. As for the classes... let's just say we had professional differences that interfere with our business relationship at this juncture. That's not to say we'll never have classes there again but not any time soon.
Decent facility but watch out for the membership creeping up every year, agency take overs of the range when they want to shoot without notice and, the add on sale at inflated prices.
Overall it's a pretty good place to shoot but beware of the bull*&it.

Unless it has changed; its $20/person to use the range without being a member. The only true outdoor public ranges in this area that I'm aware of are Rankin Lake (Gastonia) and the Uwharie.

thanks for the info. No one seems to want to answer the phone at Efird. You got any more details about the one in gastonia? only one i could find was the one for the city of gastonia which is only open to the public on saturdays.

Rankin Lake is the city range. I haven't been out there in a few years but I know they used to have skeet/trap and rifle ranges for public use. The pistol range was only for mil/LEO use.

Efrid's is a crap shoot as to getting someone to answer the phone.

You could check out the Uhwarrie National Forest range, from Efirds its probably closer than Gastonia and it was free.

thanks. i'll be staying near statesville. i'm probably gonna hit up the range in elkin. Windy hill trading post. from what i've learned, they're public, cost 8 bucks an hour to shoot, and have a 100 yard range.  about 45 minutes from where i'll be vs uwharrie which according to mapquest is about an hour and 1/2.

still also trying to get info on the FOP range in statesville. had heard once that it was closed, but i'm not able to get anyone to answer the phone.

Uwharrie is now $3 a day or $30 a year to shoot.
