Hey guys...need some help...

Buying an item on HTF page and trying to use the PayPal "gift" method but getting the error message "Sorry, the recipient doesn't accept payments using this payment method...Please choose another".  Trying to pay for item but continue to get error.  Any help?

When choosing the "gift" option the buyer has to pay the fees.  When paying regularly most just add ~3.5% to the purchase price to cover the fees which are deducted from the seller's received payment.

Either way violates PPs TOS and can get you locked. Just ask the seller if you can add 3.5% to cover the fees and pay regularly.

Learned something new.  Seller has agreed to a MO so it solves the problem.

My first HTF purchase...don't want to screw it up

Gift option is a terrible idea for the buyer too.  If they get stiffed on the sale, they're screwed because they called it a "gift".....no recourse with PayPal or their credit card company.  Just pay the 2.9% + 30 cents and be done with it.

But it's anything prohibited by their TOS, then you can really be screwed as a seller--if they find out it's a gun part, they'll pull the funds back out of your account even if you've already shipped it.  I used to have my PayPal account linked to a small checking account with a zero balance.  As soon as the money would hit, I would transfer it to the checking account, withdraw it from the ATM 2 days later, then ship the item.  If PayPal tried to backcharge, they wouldn't get a dime.  They got wise to it, and that went away.  Now I don't take PP on anything more than I'm willing to lose......for the convenience.

The "gift" method only charges fees to recipient when the sender tries to use funds not in his PP account.  Transfer funds from your bank into PP, then send via gift.
