Capitol Gun Rally

Very few of us went last year. Maybe there will be a better turnout this time.

I didn't make it last year.

I never see it advertised, I just remembered to go looking for it this time.

If I went, I  would have to ask that our reps and senators would repeal the part that allows for people without a CCW to carry a loaded weapon in the passenger compartment of a car, truck or any vehicle. I am afraid of what is happening in the cities are going to cause the knee jerkers to what to repeal the whole CCW instead of surgical changing of the law. Way things are going. I could see Jim Crow laws coming back. There seems to be an element of society that want to kill themselves off and hand guns is the weapon of choice.

It might be better if you attended a gun control rally instead.

What you are suggesting is a slap in the face to those who have worked to achieve what we have now.  We shouldn't need to get permission from the state for what is a right... period.  Furthermore, What you are suggesting is clearly in violation of the current state constitution.

Perhaps we should ask permission to purchase ammo?  Maybe if we limit magazine capacity?  Perhaps only allow CCW permits to those who are POST certified?

After all that we can limit what people say, wouldn't want anyone's feelings getting hurt and taking out their anger with a gun.

You realize that most of us favor constitutional carry, right? Why should you have to ask the government's permission to equip yourself with the means to defend your life?

I think this applies.

Ben Franklin Quotes. “They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” ”Those Who Sacrifice Liberty For Security Deserve Neither.”

Well looks like I still have it. Stirred up a hornets nest.

I was looking at the screen names of those of you who didn't fully look at my message. And I cant say I know any of you. I have gone to many of these rallies out in Jeff City. I have called and wrote to our senators and reps before we got CCW in Mo. My message is about the idiots here in the St. Louis metro area. And I suspect that the KC area is not much better. And yes I understand what Franklin was speaking about. Mark my words. Unless all of the shootings slow back down to a trickle. The hanky stompers are going to demand something be done about all of the shootings.

Boy I just cant believe you guys. I surely dont want to restrict anything. Yet, think about it. Is just letting any jerk carry a loaded gun in the car a good thing? I say if we are going to have a CCW law in this state. Then maybe we can reduce all of the shootings by requiring the gang bangers to get a ccw. Otherwise if you cant then the cops have a tool to take the guns away from the gang bangers. I am talking about those are a undesirable element of society.

So forgive me it some of what  I said goes against your grain. But realize that our society does not work if you throw the doors wide open to everyone. I can see I will not be welcome to some of the activities that you few who spoke so strongly about my message. No discussion about my message, just slam me to the floor. Gee thanks guys. Be damned it you are ever in trouble or attacked will I open my wallet for your cause. And I have done this for a few others that I barely knew. To you few "Piss Off"!

Lighten up Francis.  And yes you do want to restrict something, and that would appear to be an inalienable right.

I don't have any statistics, but I would bet the majority of gang bangers are riding dirty.  Meaning they are either a prohibited person or they are in possession of a stolen firearm.  If however a gangbanger is in legal possession of a firearm, who are we to say they can't?  Who are we to say anyone can't?  I just don't agree with requiring someone to jump through hoops in order to protect themselves.

There doesn't need to be any discussion of your message. We understand what you want, we just think it's a terrible idea.

"Gang bangers" have a habit of not obeying laws in the first place. Second, if they really ARE criminals, law enforcement already has what it needs to confiscate their weapons.

Gun control advocates like to restrict the rights of the masses based on the actions of a select few. Read your post carefully and decide if that applies to you.

ETA: You will never get me on board with a law that punishes a law-abiding person for arming and defending themselves, anywhere they go.

You know, "Lighten up francis" could also be thrown back at those who attacked me.

All I am trying to say is this. Until this state wants to go the way of Vermont and a few other states that have no problem with open carry. This state still requires some form of hoops to be jumped through. And working within those constants. Our current rights given to us can be taken away. I am looking into my crystal ball and I am seeing the hanky stompers crying about all of the guns on the streets. That those of a certain culture have this strange need to kill each other are going to cause this to come to a head. I am just pointing out that we are about to have to defend our rights. And in view of the hanky stompers wanting to take our rights away. I would love to take the right for anyone to have a loaded gun in the car of those who are more than likely the cause of all of this grief. How many know what Jim Crow laws were all about? That gents was the root cause of no CCW. You carried, you got jacked up. Those who do not know history are bound to relive it.

Well, I confess that I don't attend the rallies despite living and working within eyesight of the Capitol building. I run a small shop mostly by myself and can't get away to the rally. I appreciate those who take the time off from work to go. They carry the water for the rest of us . . . that said, there really isn't any alternative. Unless you're willing to pay for food and drinks, you can't get legislators to attend an event outside of "working hours." And for legislators, working hours are generally from sometime late on Monday afternoon until early Thursday afternoon . . . and only four months out of the year. Sorry, but if you want to wave the flag for the legislators in Jefferson City, you have to do it Tuesday through Thursday, while the sun is high in the sky.

Jim Crow: After the 14th Amendment, you could no longer target a specific race with laws. So, in order to keep that race from having guns, you had to restrict everyone's access to firearms.

You: After the 14th Amendment, you could no longer target "a certain culture" with laws. So, in order to keep that race from having guns, you had to restrict everyone's access to firearms.

Max,  Your rights are given to you by God and not even you can give them up.  You can simply choose to not exercise them.  Yes, nobody in this state wants convicted violent felon's have have firearms.  Yes, those that don't know history are bound to repeat it.  I think most are just questioning the way you are wording your argument.

While there certainly are a few legitimate reasons to not attend such events because of work, the fact is for many it is a lame excuse.  People take a day off from work for many reasons.  The vast majority of employed people have the ability to take a day off for personal reasons, holidays, sick days, etc.  At least many of those I know who have used work as an excuse have had no problem taking a day off from work to go to a baseball game, fishing, etc.

It is understood there are only so many days that can be taken off.  So just be honest about it, is that baseball game, or doing something quite minimal once a year to protect your rights more important to you?

Ah a wonderful exercise. I have now refined the silver and been able to skim off the dross. The difference is those who would point out in a civil manner versus those who would lump me into the anti camp without considering the years I have been on this board. And as I pointed out earlier that I have supported the CCW and a few members. To the dross, screw you. To the silver, I'll always be true to you. And forgive me when I just get sick and tired of hearing of nightly shootings and wonder how long before they come for us. Oh and BTW good point about the 14th amendment, but even things written in stone can be chiseled back off of the stone. IT IS AN AMENDMENT. As to our God given right. That has not been recognized in how many years. Yes we have CCW, but as someone noticed. What we have is not a God given right, but a man given right as of today.  And if you have not noticed, the Christian Church is slowly fading away, mores the pity.

This makes no sense. I never said anything about repealing amendments... Yes, it could happen, as the 18th was repealed by the 21st. The issue is that I don't agree with laws targeting specific groups of people. I LIKE the 14th amendment.

Never did I say you said anything about repealing. But you acted like the 14th is cast in stone and that was that. All I noted was that there could be a return to Jim Crow Laws. And yes that would mean to everyone. It was when the Jim Crow Laws that came to be. That we all lost the right to carry a gun. To include pocket guns.  Surprise, surprise I dont want the 14th to be repealed either. What I have been trying to say is that with the hanky stompers seeing all of the killing in the city by a certain culture. How long before our gun rights might come under fire. Now all I have suggested was that if you didnt have a CCW (Which happens to be the law of the land at this time). Then maybe one should not be able to drive around with a loaded weapon in the passenger compartment. Well that set off a fire storm. Wonder how many that got all upset dont have a CCW? I fail to see anyone having a dog in this race if you have a CCW. Gives the cops one more thing that they can throw on the books if someone is driving around with intent to cause harm via shooting someone from a car. Yes I know that there is an element that has little regard for the law. So how is this going to stop them? Hell if I know, but I am talking about it. Unlike some of the juveniles who went  off and call me names.

Max our gun rights are always under fire. There is a certain element that will do all they can, when they can to further their cause. We have to be stronger and better equipped to stay ahead. This in-fighting does our side no good, so how about we stop the name calling (everybody) and work together to keep our rights. Deal?

Obviously the best way to stop the crime would be gun registration. Only someone that is able to own one could buy one then. That would stop all the problems.

I think a mental evaluation from a .GOV doctor would be an extra measure to be safe about it.

Back to the original thought...
I would love to go.  Can't get out of work.  Unless someone wants to go be deposed for 4-5 hours.

Secondary thought...
To anyone who believes we should restrict the ability from any law abiding citizen to carry...(I haven't figured out how to identify a "gang banger" without seeing him do something wrong.)  I will NEVER GIVE AN INCH!  Not even one period or comma.  In the car, in the open, whatever.   While it drives me nuts when I see some idiot running around Wal-Mart on the news wanting to carry his AR in to the store, but that is his/right.    The people will eventually deal with the "gang bangers" carrying guns in their cars when they get tired of it.  Apparently, they aren't tired of it yet.  (Doesn't mean I'm not.)

When you can figure out "the heart of a man"  just let me know.

This is pretty entertaining. I was going to say something about thinly-veiled racism, but racism can't be thinly-veiled if the person in question doesn't know, right?

Then again, an impressive amount of effort has been expended to dance around the particular word he really, really wants to say.

I have no idea what a "hanky stomper" is, but for the record, if they are not shithead criminals I support their right to firearms as much as I do my own.

It'd be really handy if we had something like a Permit To Aquire issued by the Sheriff.  We should try something like that to reduce crime in the city.

Yea, but it seems pretty secure. We need another one to keep the mandatory medical exams we should all have before being able to buy or carry a gun.

Or knife. Let's throw those in too since a guy got killed with one ..........

We should include 'box cutters' in the definition of weapons of mass destruction as well.

After all.  They did kill 3000 people on 9-11.

Say what you will bit YOU are the one wanting the government to force your belief on my because something makes you uncomfortable.  I should not have to get permission to carry the tools to defend me and mine and neither should anyone else.
