Soo i've always shot with something covering my eyes, but its never been a pair of glasses/sunglasses that are rated for anything serious. Sometimes a pair of safety glasses from work or some aviators i have lying around. I'll admit im ignorant on the subject of good eye protection. I looked around and saw some crappy/ugly glasses for cheap and also glasses that were wayyy above my budget.
Anyone care to educate me on decent to good quality(bang for your buck) eye protection out there?? Not to mention i don't even know what "makes" a good pair of eye protection..just interested to see what you guys use on a regular basis. |

Safety glasses from work I don't know that more expensive glasses would protect my eyes any better unless I bought some goggles. Good to know!! sometimes i see people with special looking glasses and i didnt know if i was missing something or asking for trouble! |

Here's what I got:
Amazon- Allen Shooting Glasses Under $16 with prime shipping, or you could add a few other things on there that you need to get to $25 and then it'd be free shipping if you don't have prime... I really like them, got 2 sets actually for my GF and friends when we shoot. 4 different lenses and they are actually really comfortable. The nose piece is soft and adjustable, not hard like regular safety glasses. With the clear lens, I honestly forget I have them on after a few minutes. Wore them in the house for 20 minutes before I realized they were still there haha. Definitely worth the $15 investment |

Just make sure the glasses are ansi z-87.1 and you will be gtg This is what I was going to post. This is the OSHA standard. I have a pair of Revision Sawfly with RX insert. They can be picked up quite cheaply on flea bay or the EE. Eta: If your work is supplying "safety glasses", check on the inside of the arm for the Z87 stamp. I can't imagine a business supplying "non rated" ppe as that would open them up to not only fines but also liability. You may not need to buy anything. |
| My everyday sunglasses are rated as eyepro. So they do double duty. I get them from here. Standard issue |

I wear OAKLEY everyday.
this place has affordable ANSI rated safety glasses,....even bi-focals for the over 40yr crowd. http://www.safetyglassesusa.com/ . |

Anything that meets the ANSI specs.
This thread in GD will drive the point home as to why you NEED rated eye-pro. I never shoot without it. |

I bought a set from Revision they are a industry partner here.
Check it out. |

For $15 can't go wrong. Its nice having the 4 different shades to mess around with too. |

If you don't need corrective lenses, Grainger has a suprisingly large selection of non dorky safety glasses in the show room.
I've been wearing NYX glasses and inserts for several years, and they saved my eyes, but I ordered a set of lenses and frames form ESS. Their prescription insert is superior to the NYX, but they don't offer anywhere near the selection of lens colors I use. C Sports Optical on Manchester Road in Brentwood is a great place to get prescription glasses with colored lenses in no kidding safety frames. |

I will never again pay money to Oakley after they refused to stand behind their M-frames. A good company would repair or replace the frame that breaks due to changing lenses on a pair of glasses marketed and designed to have the user change the lenses. But not Oakley. They only want to charge the customer, me, for the replacement frame. And when asked if they (Oakley) would simply sell me additional frames so I would not have to change the lenses, which breaks the frame, they said no. Forget Oakley! |

I asked the OAKLEY rep at the 2007 NRA show why they didn't sell (M-frames) frame only, and he reached under his table and gave me one free ! ! ! |

If it had happened to me just once I might think it an anomaly. But after having 4 successive frames crack in the exact same area each time from changing the lenses, on eye wear that is specifically marketed and sold as having interchangeable lenses, and then being told that I would have to pay a replacement charge of $25 in order to get a replacement frame, FUCK OAKLEY! Worst of all you just know it's made in some offshore factory with a parts & labor cost of pennies. ![]() |

I got several pairs of UVEX Genesis XC (XC is for Extra Coverage) for my boys and me. I think they were less than $10 each from SafetyGlassesUSA.com They have several different interchangeable colored lenses for about $6 each.
I wear corrected glasses (can't make myself to contacts). They have a lens frame insert for $20 and got a pair of single-vision lenses from the optomotrist for $80 (Walmart vision center CANNOT cut these lenses). I can still swap out for amber on cloudy days or dark sunglasses for sunny days even with my corrected lenses. All the cool shooters glasses place (Rudy, Oakley, etc) are north of $300 for corrected lenses, and IIRC you are stuck with one color of lenses. You can even get specialty colors for welding, etc. I think I ordered actual lens templates for my eye doctor, which I'd be glad to lend someone. They were only about $5, but it took some legwork to actually find them. |
